"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

Yes, you read the title right. I said the C word. Christmas is my absolute FAVORITE holiday. It's not even the actual day of Christmas that I love the most; I love the time from Thanksgiving through New Years. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside :) Well today is the start of my Christmas countdown! (I know, I know, it's not even Halloween yet) Only 3 more months until Santa Clause comes to town! I can't wait for Miracle on 34th street to come on TV. It is one of my favorite Christmas movies. You can't forget about Christmas in Rockefeller Center or A Christmas Story! Have you started your Christmas countdown yet? To get you all in the mood, here is Frank Sinatra's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas":

Have a great day everyone!!

Crafty Wednesday!

So, after getting so many compliments on one of these frames that I have in my room, I thought I would share it with you all and tell you how you can have an adorable frame for yourself or friend! (sorry for the bad quality phone pic!)
First I headed to Michaels to buy all the supplies. You'll need:
-Ribbon of your choice
-Paint colors of your choice ( I really like the craft smart brand acrylic craft paint)
- an array of paint brushes
-Shiny lacquer coat if shine is desired (for this particular frame there is not shine to it, however, I think a dark brown with a shiny finish looks really classic to fit with any room)
- Wooden picture frame (there are many shapes and sizes to choose from)

I started off by putting news paper down. Then I picked my paint color and then word color. In this case my paint color was a pretty hot pink with white paint for the letters. I am obsessed with the pink and green ribbon that is above my frame, it has a shimmery/satiny feel that really dresses the frame up. Next, I took a spongey brush and coated the frame with the pink paint several times over. Just make sure you do as many coats as necessary to cover the wood grain. Then I let my frame dry for about 2 hours. Then I added the letters on. This was free hand but you could go about this in so many different ways. They sell paint pens so you could literally just write with paint. I added the letters with think paint brush in plain white acrylic paint (next time I want to use one with a shimmer!). Add the bow with glue and voil-a! I think these can make really great personalized impromptu gifts. I think it would also be a great idea for a little girls birthday party craft. It's an inexpensize way to personalize my dorm room too!

Have a happy Wednesday! Don't forget to enter my bow-tie giveaway which ends Monday 9/28!!

Giveaway: Fine and Dandy Shop!!!!

One of the many reasons I love blogging is because I meet so many great people through it as well as amazing companies that I would have never known about if it wasn't for blogging. A few weeks ago I did a post on my love for a man in a bow tie. There is just something so sophisticated yet so cute about a bow tie. In the post, I listed several bow tie options that I love for men. After doing the post, I got a great e-mail from Matt Fox, the owner of a men's accessory website, Fine and Dandy Shop. His website not only offers many very affordable bow ties, but also offers ties, ascots, scarves, hats, cufflinks, wallets, etc. His shop will be celebrating one year in business next month! After looking through his website, I knew that this was going to be one of my new favorite websites to buy gifts for all of the great guys in my life. He has so many choices for every guy: preppy, classic, casual, formal, and fun. My grandfather's birthday is coming up next month and he absolutely loves bow ties so this couldn't have been a better time to find out about this great website. Plus another thing I love about his website is that it is often times really hard to think of a great gift to buy a guy for any occasssion, and at the Fine and Dandy Shop, there are so many options, there is something there to please any man. I also follow the blog which is really neat because I am always shopping for myself or my girlfriends, but at the Fine and Dandy Shop blog, I get a great look into men's fashion.
Thanks to Matt Fox, I am able to host a giveaway of a tres preppy bow tie! This bow tie has bold, classic navy blue and red stripes. It is 100% silk and is priced just right at $35.00 on his website. So classic, it would look awesome on your hubby, dad, grandfather, best friend, uncle, or brother!
So, readers, here is how you can win this great bow tie:

-You will get 1 entry for being a follower and going to Fine and Dandy Shop and picking out your favorite thing on the website and commenting on it. Remember to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you if you win!
-If you blog about this giveaway, you will get 2 extra entries! (let me know if you do)
- This giveaway will end at Monday September 28 midnight and I will announce the winner the next day using random.org!

Thanks again to Matt Fox at Fine and Dandy Shop for hosting this wonderful giveaway!

Final Dorm Week Post!

This is the last dorm I have to show off! It comes from the lovely M whom I have had the pleasure of knowing through e-mail because she does not have a blog. She is adorable, and wait until you see her room! Here is what M has to say about her room:
"I wanted my dorm to be totally in my two favorite colors and of course Lilly. I switched dorms and got moved to a single. It is small but works for what I need. One of my favorite parts is the Lilly monogram on the bedspread as well as the Lilly lampshade. I also have a Lilly memo board on my door. Lastly, the Lilly party pompoms finish off the room!"I just love her monogrammed magnetic board and her hot pink pompom!
Love the Lilly lamp and the monogrammed tervis tumbler!!

Her pillow is so adorable!

Lilly monogram on her bedspread--where can I get one?!

M's room may be small, but with all of adorable, preppy elements she adds to her space, she makes a statement. Her room is colorful and cheery but also reflects her personality! Thank you again M, for sharing your super-cute room with all of us! I hope you enjoyed all of the dorms this past week! I hope to continue this next year! Have a wonderful day and a fabulous weekend!
Yours,
sCe

P.S. Look out for a surprise Monday!!

"With this ring, I thee wed"

I am currently taking a general religion course and the other day, I was sitting in the class and we were talking about symbols in different religions. The professor brought up what the wedding ring is supposed to symbolize, and somehow he went onto a tangent about the woman taking the man's last name after marriage. He proceeded to tell the class that it was becoming outdated and many people don't do that anymore and in fact, most women do not want to take the man's last name because they want to be their own person.
While I understand what my professor is saying, and how I can see that some women would not take their husband's last name because of their profession or other reasons, I personally plan on taking my husbands last name. I mean, a wedding for me is not for a very long time (6 years or more!) but when it is my time to get married, I feel as though I would be excited to take my husbands last name. Of course I am proud of my family's last name, and respect it fully, I think that out of tradition, that I will take my husband's last name. My mother took my dad's last name, all of my aunts took their husband's last names, and I'm not really sure I've even met many people who haven't taken their husband's last names.
I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on this matter? If you are married, did you choose to take your husband's last name or not? And why or why not did you?
Have a great day!!
Yours,
sCe

"I'm with you, rain or shine!"

During the dead of winter when it's so very cold and I cringe just stepping outside, I admit, I wear Ugg boots. In fact, I have several pairs. Personally, I think they are very unattractive footwear, and they don't compliment any one very well. I'm a hypocrite, right? Well, not really. I LOVE my Uggs. They keep my feet so warm and are so comfortable. However, when I wear them, I am not only cringing because I dislike walking to class in the freezing cold or snow but I am cringing at myself for wearing the boots. Over the years, I have come up with several just as good options to keep your feet warm and dry in the winter months. These options, in my opinion are a more fashionable option than your go-to Ugg boots.
L.L. Bean Duck Boots- a preppy staple worn by both sexes. They have so many options such as the shearling lined option.L.L. Bean Town and Field Suede Boots- So classic but also stylishTravel Smith Andiamo Riding boot- I love the metal hardware detail.
Ugg BellvueBorn Miriam- You know you will get great quality when ordering these.

Talbots Quilted Riding Boots- These are at the top of my wishlist!
Old Navy Faux Leather Harness Boots- A great cheap option. Only $34.50

Which pair is your favorite? Do you have any go -to boots in your closet? Have a fantastic day!
Yours,
sCe

Fall for corduroys!

Wide whale corduroys are a preppy fall staple that you can't go wrong with. They are timeless, can be colorful if you choose, and have been around for ages. I know my mother and father still have pairs from when they were in college. Plus the biggest bonus in my book is that they are extra comfortable and warm too! Here are some corduroys that I am loving for this fall:Vineyard VinesMurray's Toggery Shop (lots of different prints to choose from)Ralph Lauren

I can't find a picture to put on here, but Talbots has so many colors to choose from. My Favorite color is red berry. Wouldn't it look great with a pretty navy blue sweater?

J. Crew (on sale!)
Brooks Brothers (I love the cut of these)
Lands End (I am ordering these as soon as the cool weather hits! If you can't tell they have embroidered ducks. Perfect!)

Have a wonderful, preppy filled day!

God Bless the USA

Today we remember the tragedy of September 11, 2001. It is a day which will live in infamy. Please pray for all of the families affected by this grave event. Not only that, but today is a day to be proud of our country. It is a day to remember "United We Stand". Call your loved ones today and let them know how much you appreciate them. Hang your American flag outside of your house. I know I will be thinking of the families affected and the amazing police and fire crews that saved so many lives.
God Bless the USA.

Pink and Green dorm!

The next space I am sharing is Mallory from Just A Preppy Beach Chic Girl. Her's is an adorable pink and green/Lilly themed apartment. If you aren't a reader of Mallory's blog, head right on over, it is such a fun read! Thanks for sharing your room with us Mallory! Here is what she says about her apartment:

"I looked for pink and green items that were not childish but more with a graphic print. I also love my big "M" that my mom surprised me with last homecoming!
I love the beach and having the painting above my desk relaxes me.
My pink bookcase is Lilli-fied with Essentially Lilly, the Lilly Calender, and the Lilly picture frame.
My favorite thing in my room is the pink picture frame above my bed. It says, "Have faith in your dreams and someday, your rainbow will come smiling through." - Cinderella
I submitted this to the Lilly Pulitzer College Decorating Contest and won!"I just love all of the pink and green. My roommate has the same bedding except in oranges and pinks!Lilly and the beach go together oh so well!I love how she used her book shelf not only for books, but to display what she loves: Lilly, Theta, Pink and Green, and pictures!Lilly Galore!

Now I can definitely see why Mallory won Lilly sunglasses from the Lilly contest on facebook! Her room is so adorable with a beach/lilly/pink and green theme. It's the perfect sorority girls room. I also love her big M on the wall! I have a small S on my wall, but am definitely doing to keep my eyes peeled for an S like Mallory's! Thank you again to Mallory for sharing her room with us! Have a great day!

Luxurious Dorm!

The awesome Caroline at Sweet Caroline, who is actually a real life friend of mine just sent me the photos of her dorm room. Let me tell you.. I wouldn't even call what she is living in a dorm. Luxury suite is a more appropriate term for her "dorm" room. Here is what Caroline has to say about her space:

"I love how beautiful my dorm room. My campus itself it set like a country club so naturally the dorm rooms are not going to be like any normal dorm room. The rooms are equipped with: Full Size Beds with built in shelves, reading light, power supply Desks with bookshelf and printer stand, built-in power strip, Luxurious Furniture featuring Mirrored armoires for hanging clothes and storage TV stand/chest of drawers, Coat closet, Lighted Sleek Bathroom featuring Private restroom, Granite vanity with 2 under mounted sinks Large vanity mirror Maple cabinetry with generous storage space for personal items. And everything is NEW! The black furniture makes the room real expensive but the black shows the dust. But when that is the only negative about the room... who cares!"This is their entry way which looks like the entry way into a hotel room.
Their own kitchenette with granite counter tops?! I told you it was beautiful!I love the black furniture and her bedspread looks so great!I love her memo board! Again, the furniture is just great.Double sinks, granite counter tops and custom wood cabinetry!
Her huge mirrored armoire with all of her Lilly, VV, and J.Crew!

Well I don't even have to tell you; you can clearly see that Caroline's dorm is just gorgeous. Not a detail is left unnoticed in this luxury room. Have a great day everyone!

sCe

Dorm Week Continues!

Today I am showing off the wonderful Sarahbeth's room from Southern Sister in a Western World. Her room is adorable, and so is she! Check out her blog if you haven't yet! Here is what SarahBeth says about her room:

"I love my room in the sorority house this year because of the slanted
ceiling. Growing up I always wanted an attic room, and my current
room totally feels that way! The nickname for my room in the house is
the Harry Potter room, because it's tiny and feels like "a cupboard
under the stairs". I made my space my own by framing a caricature of
my boyfriend and I beside my bed, having a black & white french themed
magnetic board by my closet (currently housing two tickets for a
concert on the 13th for Matthew and I) and having scrapbook frames my
sister made of us at the foot of my bed. I took advantage of the
small space, by creating storage bins under my bed and moving my
dresser into the closet. We also have metal baskets that I used to
store hygiene products, laundry necessities and food in. My door has
my name, picture, schedule and fun facts from recruitment that will
stay on through our 100th anniversary celebration in October; my
sorority will have been in Missoula for 100 years! While my room may
not be the biggest, nor allow for many decorations due to the shape, I
love it and feel very cozy in it! Note: I am currently searching for
new bedding, preferably black and white, if any of y'all have any
ideas!"

The caricature adds such a personal touch. I think it's really unique because you don't see these too often! These frames are too cute. I love the pink and green, of course! It's also so personal when it's home-made. It's also special because her sister made it for her, what a sweetheart!
Decorating your door is such a great idea. It really adds a nice decorative touch so people feel welcome into your room!I love the french theme. So girly!
I love her sorority pillow! I wish i had one!

SarahBeth did such a great job with her room! I agree with her about loving those slanted ceilings--how cozy! I also love how she thought to hang the caricature drawing, it really added a very personal touch to her small room. She makes the best of everything she has. I give this room an A++!

sCe

First Dorm Showcase!

Well, as I promised, I am featuring adorable dorm rooms/apartments this week from bloggers who have been kind enough to share pictures of their space and a little blurb on why they love it! I am starting off with the adorable Melissa from College Belle. When she e-mailed me her pictures, I have to admit, I got a little jealous! Her room is just adorable; full of pink and green cuteness! If you don't follow her, head right on over, you will love her blog! Without further ado, here is what Melissa has to say about her super cute dorm room:
"My dorm is very preppy and the full of pink and green. My room fully embodies a preppy, collegiate look. There are tiny pink and green accents everywhere and a great sense of both my roommate and I. My dorm may be teeny tiny (especially my closet!) but we were able to put our mark on it. We are both preppy and everything in our room reflects that. From our Jackie O magnets on the micro-fridge to the fabulous curtains, we have really made the room look like our own."
I love her Pink and green pillow matched with the pink bedspread! Her closet is small, but she makes the best of the space by adding storage containers and hanging sleves. Does anyone else spot the Jack Rogers at the very top and the cutest pink Longchamp at the bottom!?

I have to love the two posters she has. We definitely have the same taste :) Plus I think the blue lanterns add such a fun touch. She has all of the essential books of a prep!
Melissa's monogrammed pillow case adds such a cute little touch.

I hope you all had a wonderful time seeing how Melissa turned a boring dorm room into her own. Thank you to Melissa for sharing! Have a wonderful day!
Still want to show off your dorm? E-mail me at summerwind41490@gmail.com with a few pictures of your dorm or apartment and why you love it so much!
