This is just a friendly post to remind everyone to go out and vote this coming Tuesday, November 2. Unfortunately, I am at school, so I cannot actually go to the polls, but I will still be filling out an absentee ballot! Here is what I would most definitely be sporting if I did!
As most of y'all know, Taylor Swift's album came out at midnight on Monday! I was sitting at my computer at midnight with iTunes open ready to buy. Needless to say, I am in love with the entire Speak Now album. My favorite song is Sparks Fly. This song has been on YouTube for a while now because she did a live version of this song so I recognized it but the album version is a bit different. I really wish that she also recorded the older version of Sparks Fly because I almost think that I like the older version better. The older version has a better beat and a more "country" feel. Regardless, my "plays" column in my iTunes is well over 20 already. My second favorite is enchanted! Her lyrics are so simple, but it's hard not to fall in love with them. If you have yet to check out her CD, definitely have a listen! I also love that their are "rumors" that certain songs are about certain guys that she has been involved with. Of course Dear John is rumored to be about John Mayer, Better Than Revenge is supposedly about Camilla Belle stealing Joe Jonas, and Back to December is rumored to be about Taylor Lautner. Is anyone else out there obsessed with her new CD?
Not only did Taylor Swift just come out with her new album but so did Kings of Leon and Michael Buble. Kings of Leon's is called Come Around Sundown and it is a GREAT album. I have loved Kings of Leon before they ever became popular and their older music is really good, so if you haven't listened, I definitely recommend to! My two favorite songs are Birthday and Pickup Truck! As for Michael Buble's new album called Hollywood, I am sad to say that I'm not impressed. I think he has incredible talent but none of the 4 new songs really caught my attention and the only one I have been listening to a lot is Me and Mrs. Jones live. What are your thought's on Hollywood?
What are your current favorite songs? Have a fabulous day!
Being a college student, I find myself occasionally road-tripping for the weekend. Going somewhere for just Friday and Saturday doesn't call for me bringing my entire L.L. Bean duffel bag or anything large like that, so here are some options for packing light for weekend getaways!
I use the largest L.L. Bean Boat and Tote bag for mostly every weekend getaway. It's such a great piece to have, and it hols up so well. It is very inexpensive as well and you can of course get it monogrammed! Folded clothing, shoes, my make-up bag, and other beauty products all fit in the largest boat and tote very comfortably. Plus, the way it is structured, you can pretty much find everything in the bag very quickly and makes it easy to pack up when you are leaving your weekend fun!
I used to be a huge fan of Vera Bradley, but in the recent years, they have become too mass produced and I have noticed that the prints and quality are not up to par as they used to be. However, I have the large cosmetic case and have had it for about 3 years now and I LOVE it. It's not the print shown, it's a red print and I cannot recall the name of it, but it is so perfect for make up storage. I also have the brush set to match and that is so perfect as well and helps to keep all of my make-up super organized. The brush set fits right in the large pouch and I zip it up and toss it right into the L.L. Bean tote!
A garment bag is definitely a necessity if you are bringing dresses or anything that could potentially get wrinkled. Mined is actually black and monogrammed, but this Vera Bradley one is also a nice option. I especially like that my black one has several pockets so you can add things in the pockets and potentially only need your garment bag if it's just over night!
A jewelry case, in my opinion, is an absolute necessity. I don't have this exact one, but a very similar pink and green one with my monogram. It is perfect to hold all of my jewelry that I will need for a weekend. Sometimes I don't even need a jewelry case because pearls are all I need; when this is not the case though, I pack my super cute jewelry case!
What are some things that you use to pack for a short weekend getaway? Have a fabulous day!
This past weekend, I packed my bags and headed home to Pittsburgh! As I mentioned in my post last Thursday, it was mom's birthday and then this past Saturday was my sister's homecoming dance! It was so nice to be home for these family events and just to relax. Here are some pictures from my weekend!
These are all of the "C" girls. Mother, cCm, Grammie, and me! Doesn't cCm look adorable?! She got her dress this summer from the cutest boutique in Georgia, near our lake home and has been saving it to wear just for her homecoming!
Here is a full outfit shot of me. This dress was sent to me from the lovely Kayce Hughes! If you don't know about her wonderful clothing, I urge you to check out the website because her clothing is absolutely stunning and so comfortable to wear. I am wearing the long sleeved ruffle shirt dress in red corduroy. I think this dress is perfect because it is great for fall but can take you well into the winter months. Since it was a bit chilly in Pittsburgh this weekend, I added tights and black riding boots, however, it looks so adorable with Jack Rogers, black pumps, Tory Burch black flats, and cowboy boots! This dress makes dressing for the weather really simple!
What did you all do this past weekend? I'd love to hear! Have a fabulous Monday!!
A Charlie Brown Christmas. Other favorites include Home Alone, A Christmas Story, Polar Express, The Grinch, The Family Stone, Elf, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Miracle on 34th Street, and It's a Wonderful Life
What are your favorite Christmas movies? Only 2 months until Christmas and one month until Thanksgiving! Is anyone else counting down? Have a fabulous day!
The list could go on and on for the different types "bags" that are available for women. I will admit that this is my absolute weakness. I have a think for totes especially. Instead of being absolutely ridiculous though, it is good to have a few basic, purposeful bags that will last. Here are my top favorite picks! First, I have the small Vineyard Vines tote to use as a casual, everyday purse. This has many pockets, matches most everything, and is very durable. Next, is my (vintage) Gucci bag. This is one of my prized possessions. My grandmother bought it for my mother in Italy when she was young, and it has been passed down to me! I think every girl should have a nice, quality, leather handbag, and this just happens to be one of my favorites. Next are black clutches. They are usually more appropriate for a dressy occasion, but having one or two in black will be sure that you have an option to take out with you at night because black matches most "nighttime" clothing. While I am at school, I don't use a full wallet. I just use a card case and put cash and credit inside the zipper part and then my school ID in the outside pocket. I use one of these because it is small and can fit right into my tote or jacket pocket and the ID is readily accessible. I also love that it is attached to a key ring so my keys are always with me as well. The madras pouch is for my camera. There aren't very many cute camera pouches out there, so this one was being sold at J.Crew as a change purse but I turned it into an adorable camera pouch (it doesn't hurt that I have the tote to match!). Last but not least is a Longchamp. I really don't think these bags are very attractive but they do make a lot of sense. I've had my navy blue one for going on 3 years and it of course has wear and tear but it has held up pretty well. I also love having the monogram on it; the bag is very plain itself so monogramming adds a little spice. I also love how they fold up. When I go on trips, I usually fold up my bigger black one in my luggage so if I have a lot of purchases, I can put them all in my Longchamp. What are your purse staples or every day go-to bags? Have a fabulous Friday and weekend!
A popular theme for college parties is the never-get-old toga party! Don't let folding and twisting yourself into a sheet turn you off. After trying it out myself, it is super easy to create a very cute toga, and of course, you can make it all your own. I of course used my green seersucker twin sheet with pink flamingos scattered all over. I added gold accessories, curled my hair, and voila! I was all ready to go! If you are curious on how to fold your sheet into a toga, check out this YouTube video. Of course I modified it a little! In the video, he shows 4 different ways. I folded my sheet in half the "hot dog" way. After that, I did exactly what he does except when bringing the piece over my shoulder, I twisted the sheet a lot for a thinner strap. I also used pins to keep mine in place and definitely wore shorts underneath and had a t-shirt tucked away in my handbag just in case there was a slight wardrobe malfunction. Luckily, I stayed nice and snug in my sheet all night long! Have you ever attended a toga party? What is your favorite theme? Since Halloween is coming up next weekend, this would be a quick, easy, and very inexpensive costume idea!
Also, Happy Birthday to the best mother in the entire world!!! I'm headed back to Pittsburgh for the weekend to celebrate her birthday and to see my sister off to her homecoming dance. I am so excited! I have not been home since mid August! Enjoy your day mom, and I will be seeing you shortly! I love you!
After doing the post on classic casual staples for men, I got several requests to do a post like that for women. So, here it is! Here are what I consider to be classics that every woman should own at least one of and they will last a lifetime.
For clothes I would say cable-knit sweaters. My favorites are the crewnecks from Ralph Lauren.
The next is definitely a cardigan sweater. I love the ones from L. L. Bean and Lands End. The J. Crew Jackie is another favorite.
Next are oxford cloth shirts. These can easily be dressed up or dressed down and are so comfortable. You can also wear them during any season and can be work by themselves, or over something or under something. My favorite is Ralph Lauren, but for this, you can really do any brand.
Next is a little black dress. I have several to choose from but a little black dress is appropriate for most every cocktail attire function.
Next is a pea coat. Navy or black are the best color options but I also have a red one that I love to pull out during the cold months. I also have a toggle coat which does the trick as well.
A blazer is another essential.
Flats, boots, Jack Rogers, and duck boots are footwear essentials. For flats I love J. Crew and Tory Burch. For boots I'd go with Frye, L.L. Bean or Lands End. Duck boots are without a doubt L.L. Bean. I am usually not a brand snob but for duck boots, in my mind, L. L. Bean is it.
Next is a Lilly shift. Really, any brightly colored shift will do, but I really think Lilly does the shift best.
I also think a watch is definitely a necessity along with a longchamp purse. Longchamps are casual and can be monogrammed and can also be folded to be packed for travel.
And of course pearls are absolutely essential. I believe every woman should own at least one pearl necklace and earrings. I really can't even go one day without my pearls!
I think some accessories that are great for women include headbands, grosgrain belts, tervis tumblers, and a tote. For headbands I look all over the place and if I see one I love, I grab it. Grosgrain belts are the same way. I love love love my monogrammed Tervis Tumbler. It gets so much use. I drink coffee out of it daily, and it is also great for diet coke, tea, water, or crystal light packets. It keeps things hot and cold and is microwavable and dishwasher safe.
Some more footwear includes a driving moccasin which could possibly take the place of a boat shoe. I have both, but they are very similar. If you aren't a fan of duck boots, you could always opt for a rain boot. I like the L. L. Bean ones. I think Hunter wellies are great too.The last shoe staple is definitely a somewhat rounded, closed toe, black pump. This shoe is great for job interviews or other dressy events.
More outerwear options include a quilted jacket which is very versatile and can be purchased from places such as Burberry, Barbour, L.L. Bean, Lands End, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, etc. Another necessity is a rain jacket. I am big on always being prepared for the weather so I have a packable rain jacket from Eddie Bauer and got it monogrammed to add a little something special to such a plain item. Along with Eddie Bauer, outdoor companies such as Patagonia, North Face, and Mountain Hardware have lots of great options. When it gets a little too cold to just wear a thin rain jacket, you can add a fleece vest for added warmth. I am currently loving the "fratagonia" and Coast Apparel fleece vests.
I think a white button down dress shirt is important for any woman. It can really save you in situations where you think you have nothing to wear. Pair a crisp white shirt with a black pencil skirt and black pumps and you have a work appropriate outfit.
For fall and winter, a heavy wool sweater is good to have on hand for the coldest days. Plain, neutral turtlenecks are versatile along with chinos of different weights and colors.
Last but not least, Nike Tempo shorts are the best shorts for working out or lounging.
What do you consider your staples to be? Have a fabulous day!
Since fall has arrived and is in full swing, I thought I would share some of my favorite shades of polish for this season! Last week, I blogged about my love for Urban Outfitters Purple 1 shade which you can read about here.
Another great shade is Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI.
Suzi Loves Sydney by OPI is one of my absolute favorite nail polishes ever. It's got a reddish purple shade with a little shimmer added. I used to wear this color every day for weeks straight.
Revlon's Midnight Affair is another favorite of mine. It's a deep navy with an added shimmer. I'm not really a fan of black nail polish but this is a great alternative.
This picture is really pixelated but I couldn't find a better one on Google Images. This is Nicole by OPI Winter Glitterland. I love love love this color. I tweeted about it a few months ago. This glitter polish is great on it's own but jazzes up any other color!
Maybeline Salon Expert in Jazzy. I paint my nails this a few times during fall and winter. It's the perfect deep red. The more coats, the deeper the color. I usually do 2 to 3 coats.
What are your favorites fall shades? Have a fabulous day!
If you go into a store such as Forever21, H&M, BeBe, or South Moon Under, you see a lot of the top trends from the runway replicated into ready to wear items. These stores make it very affordable to try the latest trends. For instance, if you were to go to Forever21's website right now, you could find over the knee boots, military inspired frocks and flow-y sweaters.
I am actually a big fan of Forever21 for "going out" clothing, but you can definitely go wrong in these types of stores. Some girls think that they need to dress provocatively when going out for the night in a college town and seeing other girls with super short skirts, platform high heels, and low cut shirts can make other girls feel the need to dress that way. There are some really cute options in all of these "trendy" stores that are classy and appropriate but still make you look great! My real life friend over at Sweet Caroline, C, gave me the idea to share what I wear out on the weekends. I loved her idea, so here it goes!
Belted dress and cowboy boots make for a fun outfit.
I love this top and a girl in my sorority loaned me the skirt and I just added pearl earrings and a patent leather pump.
This is Royar from Young Southern Prep and I at Hampden-Sydney! We met there on weekend and chatted it up! I love how she is in her Lilly. You can read her blog about this here. This dress is J.crew and I curled my hair and added pearls. For daytime, a sundress is always an appropriate choice!
I paired a black ruffle top from Forever21 with simple, light pink, cuffed shorts, and added black short heels. To dress it up a little more, I curled my hair and added a fun headband from Forever21.
This was during December so this skirt was very appropriate. It is actually from Gap Kids. I paired in with tights, heels, and a fun sequin top from Ann Taylor. I curled my hair again... I think styling your hair can definitely add a punch to a somewhat plain outfit.
What do you like to wear when you are out on the town or out in your college town? I'd love to know! Have a fabulous day!
- Patagonia Vest and T-snap, love these for both! -Oxford shirts- These are a staple in my wardrobe for sure -Needlepoint/critter belts -Blazers- For girls, blazers can instantly make a plain outfit look put together and for boys it's just a classic staple - Men's watch. I'm obsessed with watches, I wear a men's watch almost daily -Hats, for boys it's an every day thing, but for girls this is a quick fix for a bad hair day! - Duck boots, Bass Weejuns, and I'd also say Bass brown bucks and Sperry Topsiders.. All of these shoes are definitely great for boys and girls and are super comfortable and perfect for walking around campus or around town.
What else do you wear that is unisex or what do you pick up from the boy's department from time to time? I'd love to know! Have a fabulous day! Yours, sCe
I never used to like gold, and now I can't get enough. I love love love this deep emerald green too! So perfect for fall, and who wouldn't love the super cute tortoise detail. This would easily be a statement piece and dress up any outfit!
Have a fabulous day!

I am always doing posts mainly directed toward the female readers, however, I thought I'd address what a classic guy should have in his wardrobe! I made several Polyvores that highlight what every guy should have at least one of:
Some essentials of a man's everyday, casual wardrobe include: Nantucket reds (and any other colored chino!), khakis, Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren Dress shirts and oxfords (also think Vineyard Vines, Southern Tide, etc.), Patagonia fleece pullover and vest, waxed cotton jacket (think Barbour, Burberry, LLBean, Brooks Brothers), Navy 2 button blazer, and Half zip pullovers .
Lastly is accessories: cummerbund and bow tie set, monogrammed cufflinks, croakies, LLBean backpack, cooler, flask, nice wallet (Ralph Lauren, Ermengildo Zegna, Burberry, etc.), pocket squares, needlepoint belts or critter belts, koozies... and I don't know how I left out watches (my absolute favorite accessory for both men and women).
What do you think the necessities for a classic guy include? Of course I am not a guy so I am in no way an expert, so let me know! Don't forget to enter my Coast and Canter Giveaway!!! Have a fabulous day!
Since it is finally October, I thought it would be a perfect time to share with you my fall 2010 favorites! I have so many favorites that it's hard to pick and choose but here are my top must haves:
Dark nail polish. I recently tried Urban Outfitters nail polish and it is just perfect. I tried the Purple 1 color and it's a nice deep, dark plum, perfect for fall and surprisingly doesn't look too purple, it's more of a Cabernet or Merlot color (this BlackBerry picture makes the color look brown, but it's definitely a deep plum).
Brown leather boots. I just put my order in for these exact boots on Sunday, so I cannot wait to get them in the mail and try them out. A friend recommended this brand (Madden Girl by Steve Madden) for an inexpensive pair of "western influenced" boots. My family is going to laugh at me while reading this because my freshman year of college, I swore to my parents that I was not going to own "cowboy" boots... well three years later and look how that's changed! They are so versatile and a much more put together option than Ugg boots. I like to think of Ugg boots as an alternative to slippers. They can be worn to the library or a casual Sunday, or around your house, but other than that, I think they dress down an outfit a lot. I also have a pair of black riding boots that I absolutely love and I am on the lookout for a very good quality pair of brown leather riding boots so suggestions are more than welcome! These are currently my number one choice for brown riding boots but I am also going to look at Lands End and L.L. Bean.
Philosophy Pumpkin Spice Muffin Lipgloss. If you follow me on Twitter this is probably overkill by now, but this is the best lip gloss. I am obsessed with pumpkin anything and this has just the right amount of flavor and scent and the caramel apple flavor adds a nice touch of sheer color. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and it would make such a fun little Halloween gift for someone!
Crabtree & Evelyn Hand Therapy Lotion. This is hands down the best hand lotion ever. I have had it in the Rosewood, Lavender, La Source, and Summer Hill scents and I love them all. I would have to say that the Lavender or the La Source are my favorites. I like to put this on right before bed and when I wake up in the morning. So perfect for the fall and winter months when hands get dry!
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is THIS month! All month long my sorority works so hard putting on events to raise money for BCA. It's really near and dear to my heart. If you would like more information, there is a tab at the top that says "Philanthropy" and you can learn all about it by clicking the tab!
Other favorites that almost made the list are:
-Patagonia Vests (also known as Fratagonia... love the play on words)
-Pearls, pearls, and more pearls
-Croakies and Koozies (some of my sorority sisters and I have deemed these a necessary part of a college girl's accessories!)
What are your current fall favorites? I'd love to know! Have a fabulous Tuesday! Don't forge to enter my Coast and Canter giveaway! It ends this Sunday and you don't want to miss out!
I have to tell you all about a great company: Coast and Canter. Brendan, the creator and owner, who I actually met through a really good friend of mine in my sorority. His company has just started and he already has a great product: The Seaside Pocket T-shirt. As of right now, the t-shirt is in men's sizes only, however, Brendan sent me one and I have to tell you, it is so well made. Being a girl, I would wear it to lounge around in or wear over my bathing suit. For a guy, this is definitely a shirt to wear every day. The fabric is so soft and I love that it is tag-less so there is no itch. The best part about this T is the price. It is only $34.99 which is most definitely a good price in my book. This would make such a great gift for your father, brother, boyfriend, or any guy in your life. As his company grows, he will be offering things for girls, so stay on the lookout, ladies! The logo is a sea horse, and I LOVE it, partly because I love anything to do with the water! He also sent me croakies and a koozie, and as you all already know, I am a koozie collector. I might as well add croakies to my collection list because I am starting to acquire a number of them as well.
This is one way that I love this T-shirt. How perfect to throw over a bathing suit. I also would love it on a guy with khaki shorts, a critter belt, and boat shoes.
This is the shirt, koozie, and croakies that Brendan graciously sent to me. Jealous? Well you won't need to be for long. Brendan is offering up one of his Seaside Pocket T-shirts, a koozie, and croakies to my lovely readers! How generous is that! All you need to do is:

Happy October to everyone! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and celebrate the new month! Time is flying by! It feels like just yesterday I was laying by the pool at the country club-- oh how I miss it! Here is an excerpt from a post from last October that I thought would be perfect to share with you all again: Paul's Pumpkin Bars! (click here for original post)
A few years back, my mother came across this amazing recipe for pumpkin bars. They are called Paul's Pumpkin bars. As I've said in previous posts, I am in love with everything pumpkin. What better time for me to share this recipe with you all than fall! These are quick and easy to make, and the icing is delicious!! They are perfect to take to a fall bon-fire, a birthday treat for your child to bring to school, to send to your favorite college student, or just to spice up any dessert time or breakfast (yes I eat them in the morning with coffee, they pair so well together!).
1 2/3 cups white sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, oil, and pumpkin with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Stir into the pumpkin mixture until thoroughly combined.
Spread the batter evenly into an ungreased 10x15 inch jellyroll pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven. Cool before frosting.
To make the frosting, cream together the cream cheese and butter. Stir in vanilla. Add confectioners' sugar a little at a time, beating until mixture is smooth. Spread evenly on top of the cooled bars. Cut into squares.
My parents are coming down next weekend and I cannot wait to have my mom bring me some of these bars. She always makes them best! Have a fabulous weekend!!!
