Beauty Products I'm Loving

So it's time to talk about beauty products that I have been loving lately (read a past post here and vlog here). Here is a roundup of my current faves and daily uses.

This stuff is awesome. I put it on in the morning and it doesn't budge. I usually don't have to reapply until mid afternoon. The color lasts through morning coffee, breakfast and lunch. Always Sienna is a great not-too-bold red. It kind of just warms my complexion. I rarely use the shiny gloss because I love Nars Risky Business gloss and it happens to pair really with the Always Sienna Revlon color.

I have been using Shamshbox's version and really like it but I think the color I got is a bit too dark so I tried out this raved about eye pencil. Verdict? I love it. The Smashbox version is great, but this is even better. I only use this on 'special occasions', not daily, but it does a great job!

I have a super oily skin which is unfortunate... especially when taking photos. I have tried everything from blotting papers to products and nothing really works. I guess the silver lining is that I've heard that you are less likely to get fine lines and wrinkles if you have oily skin! But I had just heard about Urban Decay's de-slick makeup setting spray and it actually works. Ok, so it's not a miracle worker by any stretch but I put it on before and after my makeup and I think it really does help. I also like that it doesn't make me break out at all.

I got a cute little sample before I decided to go for the full size. This is hands down the best highlighting product I have ever used. I use Nars Albatross which I love as an all over highlighter and I also have YSL Touche Eclat (which I am less than thrilled about) but the Watt's Up stays put for longer and is better around the eye area. I follow this great diagram for HAC-ing (aka Highlighting and Contouring).

I was really excited to try out Marc Jacobs' beauty line (I mean the packaging is so pretty). This blush looks crazy bold but it actually goes on and looks very natural. It gives you the perfect 'flushed' look and since it is very pigmented (similar to MAC blushes) I know that this will last me at least a year, if not longer.

Speaking of beauty products, I just received my first Birchbox and I have to say that I was disappointed. It was definitely $10 not well spent. What was in my box? One of the products was plain old chapstick. Needless to say that will be my first and last Birchbox!

Also, totally random to this post but semi-relevant... I am 23 and a half today! Thank goodness I have 6 months left of being 23, because I am so not ready to be another year older, ha! Have a fabulous day!

Yours,

I also got chapstick in my Birchbox this month which is pretty disappointing. I would encourage you to stick with it though - if you write reviews for the items in your box you get points and usually after 2 months you have enough points for $10 off anything in the store. Although I don't always love everything in my box, there have been plenty of items that have been awesome and I have gotten tons of free items with my points.

I'd encourage you to stick with Birchbox too! Although occasionally there are duds, you can also get some really awesome products, many of them from smaller companies that I would never have heard of otherwise! I tweaked my profile a little when I was getting a lot of "glamour" products, and now I get a lot of natural cosmetics and really good hair stuff. Plus they've got good deals on full-size items. Stick with it at least a few months.

p/s - Love your blog!

The chapstick in this month's Birchbox was an addition to the regular 4-5 samples and not a substitution. I think Birchbox is a unique tool for cultivating a beauty routine. I am sorry that you were disappointed, Birchbox seems like a great company and I would like to seem them continue to flourish in the future.

I would recommend IPSY. It is like Birchbox in the sense that it is $10 for a monthly makeup "glam bag" filled with 4-5 products. Ipsy is different than Birchbox because the products are all makeup products. I have really enjoyed ipsy and will continue to subscribe.
