Control Freak

Quote

This is no surprise to people who know me: I am a neat freak. I am a list maker and a go-getter. My closet is color coded as is my datebook.... I like to be in control. However, it is impossible to be in control of all aspects of your life. Time management, family, friends, social life, dating life, work life, blogging, hobbies, activities; the list goes on and on (and you bet I have a color for each). It is difficult to fit it all in and when it comes down to it, there is a lot of life that is just out of my control (like my closet space...). As I get older and wiser, I have come to accept things that I cannot control and be thankful to have such a full life.
Although there are things that I cannot control, there are plenty of little things that I have found that I do to make me feel like I 'have it together'. Here's a list of my ways to 'adjust the sails'.

Painted nails (there is nothing better than having freshly painted nails, although this is a catch 22 because chipped nails make me feel like my life is a mess)

Fresh pressed outfit picked out the night before (there is nothing worse than feeling like a wrinkly mess)

Freshly laundered and pressed sheets (the best feeling is getting into bed while they are still warm)

Pajamas that are cute and match (my favorite that are on sale)

A blog post scheduled at least 24 hours in advance (I've gotten this down to a science... almost)

Electronic devices fully charged (these help)

Styled Hair. This is a personal controversy of mine. I feel so much better when I blowdry and then straighten or curl my hair, but at the same time, I try to avoid it because of the toll heat takes on the hair. Such serious life struggles here.

A fresh and fun playlist for my daily commute (a Hall and Oates favorite

Having my coffeemaker preset to brew instantly when I awake. This is like my favorite thing in life. The fact that I wake up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing is my heaven. This also contributes to my caffeine habit-- an addiction that I have no plans of doing anything about... except fueling it ;)

What do you do during your day to help you to feel more put together and 'in control'? Have a fabulous day!
Yours,

To help myself feel more put together I like burning a candle when I get home because it helps me relax. I also love having my daily cup of tea, which gets me going for the long day ahead :)

Having the Reminders app on my phone remind me that I need to pack something for work the next day as I pull into the driveway really helps me to not forget anything.

I'm such a control freak too and feel so messy when things are off. Especially living now in the city and with the boy my neuroticism is at a high haha! I'm trying to learn to let go a bit too.

Makeup. As long as I have my makeup on and I feel like I look put together it makes me feel like I can accomplish anything I have to!

I totally agree with the nail polish! I cannot stand chipped polish, it drives me crazy!

My favorite way to keep my life in check; making sure I get an hour of reading in before bed, and charging my iPhone in my kitchen. This makes me have zero temptation to check that last Instagram post before I go to bed and I always wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on my day!

Packing a lunch for work. I always feel like I have the day together when I know I've got a lunch packed.

Lists. I love lists. Sometimes, I make lists about what lists I need to make. It makes me feel totally in control!

I agree on the nails, but I am a big fan of paying people to do it for me! I have my shellac redone every 2-3 weeks and it feels amazing every time and lasts a dream :)
