Packing

Confession: I loathe packing and unpacking is even worse. However, I've kind of gotten things down to a science. I snapped these photos while at the lake to highlight this amazing Vineyard Vines weekender bag that they sent me. This is not only the perfect size for the weekend, but it would be great for sports equipment. In the winter, I plan on packing my ski gear in this. I also plan on using this as a carry on. I'm headed to the Hamptons/NYC at the end of the month and just know this will be the perfect thing.
When packing, I try to stick to a neutral color scheme and then throw in some pops of colors with accessories. For the lake, I opted for the nautical navy and white combo. I threw in some pops of colors with scarves, clutches and jewelry and was all set. This is so I can mix and match anything and everything that I brought. When I am packing denim, I usually only bring 1 or 2 pairs.. same with leggings.
Packing for the Hamptons/NYC will be a bit more of a challenge since I'll need beach gear and city gear all in one bag. Not only that, but I'll be working in the city for part of the week so I'll need work clothes and then fashion week appropriate clothes. Whew. Just thinking about how to execute that freaks me out (the shoes...)!
Anyways, for that, I am planning on going with a neutral base. Think whites, blacks, camels.
On my carryon, I always make sure to have my iPad, my computer (if needed), my camera and any charger/cord that goes with them (don't forget headphones and an extra phone battery!). I also make sure I have a wrap or scarf to keep warm, a book or a few magazines and my datebook. I love that the VV weekender comes with a padded pocket just for my iPad, it makes me feel a little more comfortable being a little rough with the bag. I also keep my makeup and jewelry with me at all times- because those are things I would not want to lose should my checked bag get lost.
So what do you do when packing for a trip? How do you make sure you bring the least amount but still have plenty of options? I'm always looking for great tips and tricks! Have a fabulous day!
Yours,

Love that weekender! I have a VV tote that's super durable, so I bet it's great for travel. My mom always taught me to pack neutrals (like you), but with 1-2 accent color pieces that you can add to anything (fun flats, a bold necklace, a cute scarf) for some added interest!

I love that bag!!! :) it's hard to find someone else around here (portugal) with the same clothing taste that i have (and sometimes it's even harder to find something cute and classic to buy). We're dominated by zara and pull and bear, stradivarius and bershka...

While I like the look of the weekender bag, I'm not a fan of VV. I'd prefer it be LL Bean and monogrammed.

Obsessed with that bag! It would be perfect for the college trips I'll be going on this year or for a quick weekend getaway!

I have the same VV Weekender and I use it for almost every trip either as a carry on or for packing my items. It's truly amazing how much it fits! It's the perfect travel bag. I don't even know how I managed without it before I got one!

Looks like that bag would hold a lot! I have the Sole Society brown duffel bag along with a Longchamp travel bag that I've been alternating and they have been doing the trick for weekend trips. If I'm packing a lot, I try to roll up my shirts and sweaters to hopefully be able to pack more (and to reduce wrinkles and creases).

For some reason, I absolutely love packing! I always check the weather forecast, even if I think I know what the climate is like, you just never know. After that I make sure the majority of my clothing is clean, I don't like to have to remind myself to wash something that I want to bring, I always end up forgetting it in that case. Once I am ready to pack I choose my current favourite outfits and look and see if they are mix and match-able, if there is something that isn't I try to let it go and replace it with something that is. I like to have my current favourites with me because they are obviously items that I reach for often, and I want to be happy with my outfit choices while away. From there I build the rest of my outfits with additional items that work with my already chosen pieces based on the time I will be there. Typing this out it sounds a little complicated, but it really isn't!

I really like the simple outside and cute inside of your VV tote!

Such a cute weekender bag! I'll have to get my hands on one, I've been lacking a weekender for the last 6 months, and there's been so many times I've needed one!
