My Daily Supplements

My Daily Supplements

I've never really written anything about what vitamins and supplements I take daily. One of the reasons I have never written about it is because I am not a doctor and therefore, my recommendations on this topic are somewhat meaningless.

Who knows- I could just have really expensive pee (ha!) or maybe they will actually keep me healthy (let's hope)! But as I get older, practicing self-care has become very important to me!

Even though I don't know a ton, I still thought I would share what I take daily and why...I get a lot of questions about this topic, especially after I wrote about Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides last year! I've tried a ton of different vitamins and supplements and these are really the only ones that have stuck.

Probiotic// I have tried a bunch of brands and have a few that I love (like these)but the bottom line is that this is my ride-or-die of supplements. I am wholeheartedly a believer in probiotics to help with gut health. It helps to regulate me and truly makes me feel better. I've read that gut health is one of the most important things. I have been taking a probiotic every single day for years and double up whenever I travel. They're somewhat pricey but worth it. I generally get the extra strength which I really think works better than the lower strength!

Joint Support// The brand I use is via Trader Joe's. It contains Glucosamine, MSM, and Chondroitin. This was recommended to me by my doctor. I have a bad knee from a high school cheerleading accident and just last year my shoulder started giving me pain (it turns out it is bursitis). The shoulder pain got so bad that I did so much research because I did not want to take Advil or anything like that. This works like a charm (so does ice- I got this on Amazon). I don't have shoulder pain anymore and my knees are mostly fine, but I still take this for prevention, too! I even give Henry a joint supplement (recommended by the vet...we gave them to Mac, too!).

Fiber// This is another one that helps with regulating your digestive system. I don't take this daily (not even too often, but I wanted to share because I think it works). Whenever I am feeling like my system needs a little push (that's the most polite way I could think of phrasing it, ha!) I take a dose. It helps the most when I travel.

Collagen Peptides// You can read all about why I love it, here. I took a break from collagen peptides and just started back up. It's a commitment but once you start doing it daily, you'll notice changes. I notice my hair and nails grow faster, my skin is clearer, but the biggest reason I love this is that my joints feel amazing! I took a break from it for a while, but I've started it back up again.

Daily Multivitamin// I have no brand loyalty when it comes to a multivitamin. This is the hardest one for me to remember to take. With all of the other supplements I actually notice a difference (whether that be in my digestive system, hair, skin, nails, joints, etc.) but with a multivitamin, I notice nothing. Hopefully, it is working! I have tried Ritual, which, in my opinion, is just overpriced vitamins. I usually just stick with Centrum or Olly- anything that I can just grab off the shelf of Target!

If I could only choose one thing to take daily, it would, without a doubt be the probiotic! It truly makes me feel great. Do you take any supplements daily? Do you recommend something? I've tried many others but once you start taking so many it gets expensive and it just becomes way too many pills for one person every day!

I am a firm believer in a probiotic and Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. I notice a huge difference in my joints and lack of aches & pains. They do not do my for my hair, nails or skin, but the lack of joint pain is worth every penny. About 8 months ago, I started getting my vitamins from Take/Care Of and it is terrific. The probiotic from them is a great price and I am able to get all my vitamins for less than the drug stores. The packaging, branding and app is on point too!

Thank you for posting about the collagen! I'm in my mid twenties, and when I started having joint and back aches and pains I thought I was crazy because I'm so young. People really don't tell you that this sort of pain can start at any age, and now I'm trying to take the best care of it possible so it doesn't become a problem as I get older. For vitamins, have you heard of Garden of Life? Their vitamins are supposed to be derived from actual plants, veggies etc, instead of being synthetically made like a lot of vitamins are. Again, I'm not sure if it's worth the price difference...but I really like their commitment to providing a more natural supplement.

Could you please tell me he name of the joint support from Trader Joe’s you mentioned. I’d like to check into it.

Vitamin B-12, or cobalamin, is a nutrient you need for good health. It's one of eight B vitamins that help the body convert the food you eat into glucose, which gives you energy. Vitamin B-12 has a number of additional functions.
