Jackie O Inspired Outfits

I came across this top randomly one day and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it! Sometimes I believe I was born in the wrong era... the style of the late '50s and '60s is something I am utterly obsessed with. I love mini shift dresses, portrait collar tops, tweed dresses with matching coats, monochromatic outfits, a full-skirted cocktail dress, and so much more that were very prominent around 1958-1965ish. Bewitched, the hit sitcom in the 1960's is one of my favorite shows and what gives me so much inspiration. And to top it off, Jackie O was a style icon in the 1960's and she's one of my own icons that I look to for inspiration to this very day.

Unfortunately, pieces that have a '60s vibe are rather hard to find in 2019! Which is surprising, because a lot of those styles are so classic. So, when I saw this top, I just had to order it immediately!

Sure enough, it was everything I hoped it would be. Well-made, classic, and stylish. It's made of a crepe-like material so it's dressier than your average top but I paired it with White Jeans which easily dressed it down for a more day-to-day look. Besides jeans, you could pair it with navy slim dress pants for a monochromatic look that would be appropriate for an office setting!

I saw the Dress, too, and had to get that as well. It's such a great little dress that hits right above my knees. It's definitely conservative but still very chic and sophisticated. This is a great office dress, cocktail party dress, or shower dress. You could easily wear this with tights as fall and winter approach.

I haven't carried my Speedy with me in ages, but it feels so appropriate with both the dress and top because the speedy was a popular bag in the 1960s. Actually, the reason I bought the LV Speedy as my first designer handbag is that Audrey Hepburn was photographed carrying the bag so often all of those years ago! It's a bag I love and will never part with.

Etsy Finds

Etsy Finds
300 pc. Stationery Set// Dog Tea Towel// Blackwatch Plaid Tree Skirt

The Etsy favorites posts from this year have been some of your favorite posts (thanks, everyone!), which I love because I love Etsy! There are so many amazing items from around the world on Etsy and it's so great to support small businesses.

Today I'm sharing some more of my favorite things. I really think I need to order this Custom Sign... the sample has 'Summer Wind' on it!! I think that this Cutting Board makes a really touching off-the-registry gift for a bride-to-be!

I am so excited to finally have a real Christmas tree this year and I have already been hunting for a classic, gorgeous tree skirt. I find a lot of them to be boring/or just plain tacky, but this Blackwatch Plaid Tree Skirt is so beautiful and classic!

Lately

I cannot believe we are already to Thursday! I got back from the lake late Sunday night and I have been on overdrive all week trying to play catch up! Lots of random miscellaneous tasks, errands, fall planning, and scheduling. I have quite a busy fall coming up in terms of social life. We have lots and lots of weddings which is so fun and exciting... a lot of them require travel which will also be fun, too!

I also tackled a bunch of small wedding-related things which had been sitting on my to-do list for a while. It feels good to be able to check them off!

Besides that, I got the itch to organize the house so I have been slowly organizing every space! Organizing is one of my favorite things to do (which I know sounds really lame). I have always been this way, though. In the kitchen, I took everything out of the cabinets and finally organized it appropriately and with bins/organizers. The sense of accomplishment after organizing something feels so good. One night I even took time to organize the garage... that had been sitting on my to-do list forever and I'm so glad it's finally done! Being organized makes me feel ready and excited to embrace a new season.

Wearing: This Eyelet Top  is one of my favorite pieces that I have been wearing lately. It's still summery because of the eyelet, but the color and sleeves make it seem a little more fall appropriate. This is the type of thing that I love to wear during this transition period between summer and fall! It runs a little big so I would suggest sizing down!

Eating: Oh. My. Gosh. Do not walk, RUN to your nearest Chick-Fil-A for their mac 'n cheese. My fiancé is Chick-Fil-A obsessed and he had us going there the day they started serving the mac 'n cheese. I was worried it would be a flop like Chipotle's queso was but their mac 'n cheese might be the best I've ever had! I don't even want to know the calorie count on it because it is sinfully rich and creamy.

Reading: Have you all seen that Target is bringing back items from their past brand partnerships?! This includes the Lilly for Target pieces from 2015! You can shop starting on September 14th.

Watching: I just watched Panic Room which is a movie on Netflix. It was SO good. It's a thriller and kept me on my toes the entire time. It's definitely a great movie to watch if you are staying in one night this weekend!
Listening: I used to make monthly playlists and since then, I've decided to cut down to make them 4x per year. Summer's is finished and I'm ready to move on to fall, but it's worth a listen because there are some real gems on there!

Loving: These. Shoes. They are everything, aren't they?! It's like Ralph Lauren and Ferragamo made a shoe... classic and ladylike and preppy all at the same time. Want. There's a bag too. Drooling.

Loving II: I love that Williams-Sonoma is collaborating with Schumacher! This tablecloth is so beautiful! On top of that, Pottery Barn created a Friends collection and it is part funny, part clever! I want this doormat! So fun.

Wanting: This hydrangea topper is very summery but it might be the chicest thing I have seen in a while! It can be paired with a matching dress making it 1960's Jackie-O-looking, which I love. This is a new-to-me brand, but it's worth checking out because all of their pieces are so classic- like this blush dress. I've also been eyeing this Goop Glow microderm instant glow exfoliator. The instant facial by Goop is one of my all-time favorite skincare products so I am thinking this one will be good, too.

Smelling: With fall around the corner, I am going to share this fig scented candle again. It smells SO much like Diptyque but for so much less. It's one of my favorite affordable candles and has such a cozy feel to it.

Easy Hairstyles You Can Do At home

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of having Courtney Benedetti come to my house to style some different hairstyles that we can all do ourselves at home! I met Courtney at my friend Eugenia's wedding and am blown away with how talented she is!

Courtney moved back from New York City to Pittsburgh. She grew up in Pittsburgh and went on to New York City where she worked at MTV, styled many celebrities, as well as became the Hair Department Head at The Tonight Show. Impressive, right?!

Now that Courtney is in Pittsburgh, she focuses on weddings and bridal hair (check her out on instagram!), but since Pittsburgh has such a big film presence, she works on the sets of shows and movies like Mindhunter and the new Mr. Rogers movie starring Tom Hanks. Not to mention she has the two cutest little girls!!

And to top it all off, Courtney will be doing my hair for my wedding weekend! I am so thrilled! Not only is she so great at what she does, but she is also SO nice and easy to be around which is something I think is really important when hiring someone for your special day.

Anyway, today we are chatting about hair that you can do yourself at home. The #1 thing I am always asked about is my hair and I personally get stuck in the same styling rut! I stick to my few styles that I know how to do but am always open to trying new styles!

That's where Courtney comes in. Most of the below styles stem from a simple ponytail that we can all do in just a few minutes.

The biggest tip that Courtney gave me was to work with your hair in sections! For example, Courtney took the top half of my hair and separated it. She put the bottom half into a ponytail and then just worked with the top half of the hair. That way the hair doesn't look so uniform and is easier to work with. To see these styles come to fruition, be sure to check out the highlight in my Instagram profile 'Hair x Courtney'. The videos help a lot to see how these styles are done.

This was one of my favorites! I think it looks so elegant and it was surprisingly quick to do! Courtney started with a ponytail but left out a 2-inch perimeter.  She then took small sections along the hairline and draped and pinned.  This left the front and back of my hair looking soft and effortless without losing the foundation of the style. Once my hairline was complete, Courtney separated my ponytail into two sections, twisted the first one and pinned it into place.  Then she took the second section and twisted it and pinned it to fill in the style.  A really great tip that Courtney shared is to use matte bobby pins since they have a more powder-coated finish they don’t slip as easily.

To create volume stemming from the hairline in most of these styles, Courtney used a triple row comb and Redken Quick Tease spray on the roots of my hair.

This one looks so intricate, doesn't it?! Courtney sectioned my hair first in half from ear to ear.  She took the bottom section and put it into a low ponytail. Then with the remaining hair, she created three sections, two sides, and the top. Think temple to temple and then create a triangle that meets at the ponytail.  She then took the top section and crossed over piece by piece on top of the ponytail. *If you don’t have thick hair like me, you can do the entire section at once, spit it in half and just cross over and pin on top of the ponytail.  Don’t worry if you see bobby pins, that's what the side sections are for! Once the top section is done, it is time to blend the sides in and hide those bobby pins.  Twist one side back and make sure it blends with the top section, wrap it around your ponytail and pin.  Then repeat on the other side.

This one is SO fun looking, right? I personally think it looks intricate and a fresh take on a typical french braid. The way it is done is similar to a french braid but instead of working with three pieces of hair, you only have to work with two.

Starting with a ponytail in the bottom section again, she split the top of the hair into 3 sections, one center row (the twist) and the sides to blend the lines and to make it more flattering from the front. To create the “french twist” you start with a small section of hair (just like if you were about to braid), split it into two pieces of hair, cross it over and then add a slice of hair to each side and twist. Add hair to BOTH sides every time, and twist every time.

Once the twist section is done, temporarily secure the twist and work on the sides.  Courtney draped both sides under the twist above my ponytail and tied it with a small rubber band on top of the main pony.  Then, Courtney quite literally tied my hair into a knot around the ponytail to secure it but we also shared this cute way to secure it with a bow! There is a great video tutorial for this one on my instastories

I loved how elegant this style looked but it was truly just two steps! You just pull your hair back into a low ponytail and as you are pulling the last portion of hair through the elastic, you stop and then wrap the hair around the ponytail and pin in the back. So so easy but this seriously looks like a style you could wear to a black-tie wedding!

These cute hair clips were so easy to place in my hair and instantly gave my typical wavy hair a new and refreshed look. I love how Courtney placed them right behind my ear. It tucked my hair back in a pretty way but I also loved having the hair pulled back from my face!

This was such a cute and easy hairstyle and I would have never thought to do it! Courtney pulled back just a section of hair at the top of my head and secured it with this bow elastic. It instantly looked like something Bridgette Bardot would have sported!

Courtney found this adorable gingham headband at Anthropologie and curled my hair into the most beautiful curls with the t3 barrel iron. She placed the headband behind my ears but made sure to leave pieces out at the front to look tousled and effortless.

Lake Chatuge Recap

I just got back from the lake on Sunday night so I'm sharing a quick little recap from our 10 days on Lake Chatuge! We go every single year with family and friends and it's always so much fun. Lake Chatuge is a large lake situated on the border of Georgia and North Carolina. Half of the lake is in each state. We stay in the Georgia area (Hiawassee) but whenever we take the boat out, we often end up in North Carolina!

My favorite thing about going to the lake besides being with friends and family is that it is a true vacation for me! Most vacations I work- not only because it's necessary, but I'm also one of those people who has a hard time turning it 'off'.  But, the entire last week I didn't worry about capturing photos, I stayed off of my computer as much as possible, posted minimally to social media and just enjoyed being there in the moment. It's relaxing, refreshing, and recharges me!

This was a shot of Henry the first day we got there. I absolutely love this photo because of his side-eye! He cracks me up constantly. He absolutely LOVES the lake. We keep him off leash the entire time and he is free to roam. He also loves playing fetch with sticks into the water. He could seriously do it all day.  He doesn't mind his life vest at all, either!

Three staples of this year were: Ingles guacamole (seriously the best ever), tequila, and White Claw. We were constantly going to the store to buy more of these items. Lots of 'light' Palomas were had!

We also have the best meals each night. Hiawassee is a very small town and there aren't tons of restaurants to choose from. We only went out one night to Enrico's which is in Young Harris, GA. We went for the first time last year and had to come back. It has delicious Italian food! Other nights we had things like crabcakes, grilled caesar salad, tacos, shrimp, and a meat and cheese platter every night.

One afternoon it rained, so we headed to a nearby antique store. It is large and was just filled to the brim with things! I didn't find anything I loved enough to buy but I just love seeing all of the old things. We also found some hilarious items like a book entitled 'Being Dead is No Excuse: The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Funeral'.

We went for boat rides and went waterskiing and wakeboarding. I love water skiing. I have been doing it since I was little. It's a workout but thrilling! Another favorite was that we took the boat on a cocktail cruise and parked the boat right outside of a sandbar. We had drinks and played corn hole. So much fun.
We had this flamingo float that was HUGE. We saw it in the photo online, but we didn't really realize how big it was until it was all blown up. We had 7 of us in it at one point playing the game '21'. We loved this float and hope it survives until next year so we can use it again. We all agreed it was the best float we have ever had. That's saying something because in past years we have gotten those huge slides, trampolines, etc.!

We ended the trip with the most fun surprise! My Aunt Lindey organized a mini-shower that was 'cocktail' themed. Everyone brought us gifts like barware, wine, cocktail napkins, etc. I am hard to surprise but we literally had NO idea! It was such a fun night!

July Favorites

Nars Palette// This has been a VIP in my makeup routine lately. It comes with a bronzer, blush, and highlighter. I love all three of the colors so much and the highlighter is easily the best I have ever used.

Charlotte Tilbury Unisex Glow// You all probably know by now that this is one of my favorite makeup products ever. You can read my full post about why I love it, here!

10 Grove Linens// We have been sleeping in our new bed for over 3 months now and we are so in love with the 10 Grove linens we got. They are SO insanely soft and luxurious. Splurging on linens is one of the best things you can do because I truly look forward to getting into bed each night!

Mi Golondrina// I absolutely love this Dallas-based brand. They create the most beautiful clothing with incredible stitching. They are splurge pieces but surely something someone will stop you and ask where you got it! I have a dress from the Mark D. Sikes collaboration that they did last year and I have worn it SO much this month. It's so easy to throw on and go.

SPF 50// I don't know what kind of sorcery is in this product but this is the best sunscreen I have found for those moments when you forget to reapply. My fiancé is very fair skinned and burns easily, he puts this on in the morning before he goes golfing and his face is totally fine after 18 holes. I used it at the beach a few weeks ago and was out in the sun a bit and never got any color on my face. SO impressed.

Mules// These mules were sent to me and oh my goodness do I love them! They are such nice quality for the price and the color is the most beautiful burnt pink... they almost skew nude! They are something I am going to wear all fall!

Ruffled swimsuit// This is my favorite suit of the summer. I love the mix of prints, it is high quality and well-made which really shows because it is so flattering. It makes me feel cute!

Leatherology Phone Case// I had this case on my old phone. I got a new phone in November and just got a cheap case on Amazon. I finally decided to get a nice case for my new phone and ended up with the same exact one because I love it so much. It's beautiful blush leather and you can get your initials stamped into the leather!

Coco and Sandalwood Bath and Shower Gel// I randomly came across this and I LOVE this scent. It's a bit manly and has a fall/cozy feel to it!

Top Products According to Analytics
So a ton of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale products were in the top products, so I'm leaving those out since so many of those items are sold out or no longer on sale!

Ruffled swimsuit// You can read more about this suit above! I love that it made my favorites list as well as all of yours!

Blue and White Chinoiserie Pajamas// Love love love these pajamas! These are what I will likely wear on the morning of our wedding!

White Shirt// I briefly posted about this shirt on my instagram stories and it ended up being one of the top-selling items! To give you an idea of how I use analytics to decide what type of content I post, I posted last Friday's post about this shirt because it was such a popular item! It's a great product and definitely deserved its own blog post!

Mockneck shirt// I LOVE this shirt so much. I have it and it's stunning. So Jackie O and classic.

Newton Chaise// These are the chairs that I have in our living room! We have two and they are so well made and high quality for the price. We got the blue ticking strip and it's a great neutral. Plus, they are SO insanely comfortable.

Striped Shift Dress// This dress has UPF 50 and makes for a great swimsuit coverup but also just a 'regular' dress. The fabric is soft and stretchy like a bathing suit or pair of leggings and it really does block the sun! Not to mention, it's so cute.

Blue and White Tumblers// If you have not seen these, yet, take a look because they are just darling! We have so many Tervis tumblers and they are so great for everyday use.

Saturday Shopping: Weekend Sales

Abercrombie is offering 60-70% off on select items. I go through phases with loving Abercrombie. I didn't love a lot of their stuff this summer, so I'm hoping for some really great fall items! I love this wrap top and this cream sweater

Banana Republic is offering up to 50% off. I love BR for classic wardrobe staples that work on a budget. For example, these ballet flats have a very Chanel-look but for so much less!

Williams-Sonoma has been such a favorite of mine lately. Right now they are offering up to 75% off and you can take an extra 20% off with sale items with code EXTRA. I have these scalloped plates and love them. They are my everyday plates and are SUCH a good deal! My placemats are also on great sale! I also love these woven canisters! During this kind of sale I also stock up on little items to keep on hand for gifts... like this inexpensive but pretty peony candle. This big wine glass set is very inexpensive and so nice to have on hand when you have a lot of guests. I have my typical pretty everyday wine glass sets, but these are great when you need more. They are dishwasher safe and it's no big deal if one gets broken! Plus you can keep them stored away in the box and only pull them out when you need them.

Net-a-porter is having a huge sale where you take an extra 20% off. This is a great time to get swimsuits for next to nothing! My biggest tip is to sort by size.

These Nike sneakers are currently on sale for just $60. I love the neutral color and look of the shoe!

Lately

This has been a fun week and I can't believe we are already to Thursday. Time really does fly by when you are enjoying yourself. I have been totally relaxed enjoying coffee with a lake view every morning, hanging out with family and friends, going on boat rides, soaking up the sun, reading, enjoying cocktails, eating delicious meals, playing endless rounds of scattegories and so much more! I am so not ready to go back on Sunday!

Wearing: I've been in swimsuits and coverups all week and this is one of my all-time favorite coverups! It's so effortless and pairs with pretty much everything.

Eating: My sister is recommending Trader Joe's Chile Onion Crunch which comes in a jar of oil, red pepper flakes, and onion and she says it is incredible! It's on my to-buy list. She says she uses it as a garlic/spicy seasoning.

Drinking: We have been eating and drinking up a storm here in Georgia. It is one of my favorite weeks of the year for food and drink. Needless to say, I need to get back on a regimen when I get back, ha! One of the drinks I did not like and don't recommend is Agua Fuerte. It's like a White Claw

Reading: I'm currently reading The Nightingale (WWII based) and I am loving it so far. The storyline is so rich and descriptive but it's also easy to read and keeps me wanting more!

Sale-ing: My favorite cashmere cable sweaters are currently on sale in a bunch of colors. Some of the colors are down to $107 with code STYLE. That's an incredible deal! I have and love this cashmere shawl- it was so pricey and now it's down to $257!

Watching: We watch a lot of movies while here at the lake and we watched Us and some of us liked it but I thought it was horrible!! Not worth the time but it did keep me somewhat entertained throughout and was suspenseful!

Listening: I can't get enough of Heaven by Avicii/Chris Martin. It's one of those songs that really gives me energy!

Wanting: It's taking everything in me to not order a ton of fall clothes just yet. There are so many great things coming out already and I am just SO excited for sweaters and jeans and all things fall!

Smelling: I have shared this scent before but I wanted to share it again because it is timely! With summer weather fully around through at least September for most people, it's tough to get fully into fall and start burning pumpkin candles. BUT, this Moso Bamboo candle has a cozy feeling without being so seasonal!

Pittsburgh-ing: Did you see that Pittsburgh is getting one of the largest Christmas Festivals ever?! Consider me MAJORLY excited!

Traveling: Next up, I'm headed to Nashville for one of my sorority sister's weddings!

Quoting: 'You have exactly enough energy for just one day at a time, remember that.' // See more of my favorites, here.

Wedding Wednesday: Top 10 Registry Items

This is another fun crowdsourced post made possible thanks to all of you! I asked on Instastories for you all to share ONE item from your registry that you highly recommend. I shared my recommendation for everyone in this post, here. I am sharing the top recommendations today. These were all very clear winners with so many people loving these 10 items!

Who else loves the image from above?! Father of the Bride is my favorite movie and as soon as I started writing this post, I immediately thought of this scene in the movie!

Kitchenaid Mixer// This was by far the most recommended item. I shared on instastories that this is not something we would personally be registering for since neither of us would ever use something like this. We don't bake at all and don't plan to and while we know you can use it for other things, it's just not something we want to store or crowd the kitchen counter with! When I shared that, I got a lot of DM's saying you've been married for ____ years and you've used your mixer once or twice. So, I'd say this one varies by the couple! My sister uses her Kitchenaid mixer all of the time! She makes sauces and cakes, and pies, and more and loves it so much!

Dyson Vacuum// I expected this one! Oh how you know we are all old when we are just dying for a Dyson vacuum, ha! My mom has a Dyson and loves it. We currently have a Shark and I honestly really like it, especially for what I paid for it. It has held up so well but we fully plan to register for one of these. It has taken so much self-control in me not to just go out and get one myself (they are a steal at Costco). A lot of you who have pets say that this is life-changing!

All-Clad pots and Pans//  I can attest to this- it's a game-changer when you have nice pots and pans! I splurged on a big a set when I first moved into my apartment and they get SO much use. I know they are pricey, but if you compare them to some other pans, they are just easier to work with, heat so nice an evenly, and hold up SO well.

Vitamix Blender// So many of you love your Vitamix blender. You can make things like smoothies but also soups and more. This is not something we plan on registering for. We have a blender and I've used it approximately 5 times ever. We just aren't smoothie people and again, don't want to store something that we won't use often but this is so great for those of you who have a smoothie daily or love to make your own soups! I also love the idea of a Vitamix if you are planning on having children and want to make your own baby food!

Wusthof Knife Set// We have the 18-piece set and it is truly one of the best things I have ever purchased. I always thought the knives I had before were perfectly fine and then I got the Wustof Set and all was changed! They slice and dice so easily.

Steamer// This one surprised me! I could not live without a steamer so I definitely think it's an important one. My go-to is considered a 'travel' steamer but I also have a full-size steamer and because I have the 'travel' one, I never use the full size. It works SO well that I rarely ever have to use my iron. You can sometimes find my favorite one at Costco!

Dutch Oven// The most popular brand mentioned was Le Creuset and in a close second was Staub. We are registering for this. My fiancé (who does most of the cooking) is very excited about this! He wants to make all different soups in it and I'm just excited to eat them. I also love how they look- so pretty! Since this is such a versatile piece in the kitchen, I think even I will end up using it from time to time.

Robot Vacuum// A bunch of different brands were mentioned, but overall it seems like a robot vacuum is a good thing! This is something we are registering for, too! I am DYING for one. I think it will make vacuuming more manageable when it comes to Henry's hair (he sheds so much).

Cast Iron Skillet// The most popular brand mentioned was Le Creuset! We are also registering for this. Another thing my fiancé is so excited for. I can't wait to get one so he can make fajitas in it! And even though I don't do much of the cooking, I personally love the way it looks!!

Breville Toaster// A lot of you had high regards for anything Breville but specifically, so many of you said the Breville toaster oven is a must! A few of you said you rarely even use your regular oven anymore and just use your Breville!

Wallpapers for Powder Room

Wallpapers for Powder Room

I mentioned in this post that I am planning to wallpaper our powder bath. It's a blank slate right now and I am SO torn on what wallpaper I should choose. It's kind of crazy how that choice sets the tone for the entire bathroom so I want to make sure I make a great choice. I'm usually pretty decisive but this has really thrown me for a loop.

This was the inspiration collage I created. Part of me wants a wallpaper that keeps things light and bright because it really does get such beautiful natural light. Then another part of me wants to create something cozy and handsome and darker.

I'm trying to reign things in and keep it within a reasonable price range, but it is SO hard to resist things like this Lee Jofa wallpaper. So stunning.

I also wish my favorite artist, Donald Roberston, would create wallpaper. I am envisioning a repeat pattern of his iconic lips/mouth or 'models'. His art/style does not really go with my decor/taste and yet I love his work SO much.  I have one of his pieces in my office but it would be such a dream to have my tiny powder room decked out in his work! One can dream!

You can see most of the things I'm leaning towards are blue-based or blue and white. It's really more of the question of whether to go with a clean, strong, stripe or more of a traditional floral chintz. I'm also leaning towards doing something handsome and cozy like this tartan wallpaper. I love these sconces that are pricey but something that would really finish the look.

I just can't decide! What do you all think? If you have wallpaper in your home, is there a particular print you love and works well in a small room?

I mentioned this before, but this is my one 'go crazy' room in the house since this is not our forever home and we will likely use this as an investment property down the road when we do move into our forever home!

Recipe: Egg Roll Soup

I am so excited to pass along this recipe to all of you. A few years ago, I made an 'egg roll in a bowl' and absolutely loved it. It was pretty easy to make (if I can make it, you can), made a lot of leftovers, and was filling. It also gave you that Chinese fix but 'healthier' since it wasn't takeout.

I came across this recipe for egg roll soup and I just knew it was going to be something I love. It had been 90+ degrees the week before so I was hesitant to make it, but we had a few milder days so I went for it.

In terms of modifications, I read all of the comments in the recipe post to decide what I was going to do. I used low-sodium chicken broth and instead of adding salt, I added a bit of soy sauce. I also added a tiny splash of rice wine vinegar, too, for more flavor. I love ginger, so I added a lot more ginger than it calls for.

Next time, I would add even more cabbage and carrots so it is heavier on the vegetable side! I don't know if I would try it with anything other than sausage just because I think the sausage gives it such great flavor.

All-in-all this was a great recipe and I highly recommend it! I had my parents over for dinner and we sat outside on our back patio to eat because it was a nice cool night! We all agreed it was delicious!

A Crisp and Classic White Button Down

Today we are talking white button-downs. I love white button-downs and seem to have tried all of the brands out there! They are such a classic and a wardrobe staple regardless of personal style. There are a million and one different ways you can wear/style a white shirt and today I'm sharing my favorite way: dark wash skinny jeans and ballet flats.

It's one of the easiest outfits to pull from your closet and you instantly look put together! I wore this shirt on instastories one day during a try-on and I got so many questions about where it came from! It's one of my favorite white button-downs and one I keep in my closet all year round. I've been wearing this exact style since high school.

Let's chat about why I love it. This shirt is made to be non-iron. Meaning you really don't have to iron it. It's actually amazing. I wash it with other white items as I normally would and hang to dry. No ironing or steaming needed. Brilliant for those who are constantly traveling and looking for a good shirt to wear on the plane (won't wrinkle while you are wearing it) or packing in your luggage when you don't want to lug your steamer with you.

The shirt is crisp and looks very put together. You could easily wear it in an office environment. It's one of the most 'professional' white button-downs I have ever come across. It's also incredibly well-made. I only replace mine every few years and that is after a ton of wear.

It's not see-through at all. It's a beautiful crisp, bright white and you can never see your undergarments or anything of the sort.

There are a ton of button-downs to choose from, but it's the 'classic fit' that is my favorite. The other fitted blouses are great if you want to wear under a blazer or sweater, but I hate the look of the darting. The classic fit is just that- classic and dart-free.

I get two sizes in this shirt. I am wearing a size 2 in the photos above. This is the perfect size for me when I want to tuck something in and don't want a ton of extra fabric. I also like this for layering since it's not oversized. I also get a 4. The 4 looks beautiful with leggings when you want a little more length to cover your bottom or when you are not tucking it in and don't mind a little more fabric. The bigger size is more tunic-ish but without the bohemian/casual style of a tunic since this is still very crisp looking!

I also wanted to mention these jeans. The Nordstrom team sent these to me. They are part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and I would not have picked these out on my own. However, I am SO glad I have been introduced to them because I am now a huge fan. They are seriously the most flattering jeans. They are so stretchy and comfortable and the dark wash is so slimming. I don't know what kind of sorcery is in the butt/hips of these jeans, but they are SO good. It says to size down but I am wearing my usual size 27 and find them comfortable- though I do think I could have worn a 26 and they would have also been fine.
