Ode to my Blanky

This is my "blanky". I have had it for 20 years and counting. I might add that it is very well traveled. It has been to the Bahamas several times, the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, all over the east coast, down south, to college, to other colleges, to big cities and small towns; to lakes, oceans, and hotel pools. I post this because I am so very curious to see if any one else still has their "comfort" item from when they were a child. I know many of my girlfriends at school still have theirs, and my sister still has hers and many friends do. This blanket is always on my bed, and if I travel for an extended period of time it comes with me. Now, I wouldn't say I am attached (although 10 or more years ago, you could have said I was). I think that having it has become more of a "tradition" or a habit if anything.
I also remember leaving it at a resort in Florida when I was very young. My parents called the resort and they had not found it. Needless to say, I was heartbroken. But luckily my parents read a book to me very often before bedtime called, Owen. It was about a mouse who had a yellow blanket just like mine (although mine is not so yellow anymore, and not so blanket-like). He took it everywhere with him but he cut his blanket in half just in case something happened. Well, I decided that it would be a smart decision to cut my blanket in half and kept one half at home at all times. So luckily I still have a piece of blanket left! Did anyone else read this book when they were a child?
Have a fabulous day!
Yours,
sCe

I still have my blanky, although it stays in the closet. However, I still do have my baby pillow that I still sleep with and it goes with me on trips still. I can't sleep without it. I agree, it's more of a habit than anything else now. It's been recovered a few times, but the original (shredded) covering is still tucked away in the middle of the pillow. I swear, I'll be buried with both my pillow and blanky. :)

OMG lol.....i still have my blanket too!! Mine's Green. It's the same one I came home in the hospital in! :) We once took a trip to Hawaii, and we got off the airplane and left my blankey on it!!! I begged my dad to go back and get it..(This was back before heightened security) so the airport people let him go back on the plane to get it. I think I was 8. Luckily my boyfriend doesn't tease me or say anything.....I keep it under my pillow. Better to have a blanket or stuffed animal than be a thumb sucker for life right? :)

I still sleep with my baby blanket too! But now it's just really in one big knot :) It's just so comforting and really is my security blanket!

This post makes me very happy! My blankie (lovingly renamed "Strings," because that's all that's left) went to college with me. My boyfriend (now, husband) captured Strings, my bear from when I was young, and my favorite children's book, and framed them all together in a shadow box. He gave it to me for Christmas our first year dating. I was wondering where my blankie was all that time (about 3 weeks missing) and when I opened my gift, I cried so hard. He said, "I'm so glad you love it!" And I said, "Ummm... it's really nice, but I wasn't ready to give my blankie to a shadow box." It was awkward, but now I love it and we'll be hanging it in my daughter's room!

All of my daughters have blankies, including my 14 year old. She hides it in her backpack when she spends the nght somewhere or when we travel. I was sick as a child and my blankey became a victim of that and had to go in the trash.

I used to have a bear named Mr. Bear that I was attached at the hip to since I was born! Sadly, I left him tangled up in the sheets of the bed in our hotel room in Rome 5 years ago! (I was 14 at the time) Whenever it comes up in conversation, we say that he was such a cultured bear and loved Rome so much he didn't want to leave! Haha, I still miss him! Thanks for sharing your blanky in this post!

Aw! I have two blankets I still sleep with! My cousin had one too and left it on vacation when she was younger...I'd DIE if that happened to me!

My daughter still has hers. Now only for the nostalgia of it, but when she was younger it went everywhere with her. Yes, she took it to college ;-) xoxo

i have not read this book, but i love its sister books: lilly and the plastic purple purse!!
i slept with a stuffed dog, named pinky, until the day i got married!!! i wrapped pinky (then grey) up and gave him to my father -- (tears!)
he was the one thing that could always comfort me...at pre-school, after a hard day, in the hospital, in college, etc.
my brother had a blanket, called kiki, and it was literally in shreds when he gave it up!
this topic certainly hits home!
btw: have you entered my giveaway for a monogrammed tote? stop by! ;-)

I still have my small teddy bear that I loved when I was younger (he went on lots of vacations too). Now he lives on a bookshelf with my mom's Raggedy Ann doll from when she was a kid.

I have to raise my hand and let you know, I have my childhood pillow. It's also traveled with me on vacations or sleepovers. It's also been through the wash many, many times and is still with me but with a couple of new pillow cover, or two. So, no you're not alone regarding sentimental childhood blankies, toys or pillows.
