Spray Tan

January 1st, my new years resolution was to stop tanning in a tanning bed forever. I have faithfully stuck by that and am on my 4th month (go me!). I've never been a huge tanning bed person, but every once in a while I get a feeling that I am far too pale and then hit the tanning bed. Well, I still get that feeling but have perused cancer-free options to make me look like I have a little color during the winter months. I have blogged about how I love L'Oreal Sublime Bronze tanning gel. It doesn't smell bad at all, it is definitely streak free and a bottle is only around $9 and lasts for a while.
If you are looking to give yourself a little bit of color (and it is NOT orange at all!) during the winter months then I highly recommend this! However, it takes about a week to get a good build of color so if you need color fast, and more of a "I just spent a week in the Bahamas" tan then I highly recommend getting a spray tan!
I just got my first spray tan a few weeks ago for my sorority's formal and I am obsessed. I was so hesitant to try it because all I could think of was ending up looking like a cast member of the Jersey Shore. However, I gave it a chance and it looks amazing! The color is a perfect bronze glow--not to dark at all and isn't greasy! It only took 10 minutes for the application and about 10 minutes to fully dry. I would recommend a spray tan to anyone looking to boost their color for an event! I am getting another one today because I have a formal to attend this weekend! Here are my tips if you are going to get your first spray tan:
  • Exfoliate! Use a loofah and exfoliating scrub so you get all of the dead skin cells (ew, I know) off of your body so your tan can be applied as even as possible.  My favorite exfoliating body scrub is most definitely Crabtree and Evelyn's La Source Body scrub! It smells so good and really works.
  • Shower as close to your appointment as you can so your skin is clean. I even recommend shaving your legs because you won't want to shave your legs again until your event so the tan has a chance to set in.
  • Don't shower afterward for at least 8 hours. I like to make my appointment at night and that way I can sleep while the tan sets in and then wake up in the morning and shower.
  • While you have the spray tan, don't exfoliate--that will make the tan come off and uneven!
  • It is a myth that you can't use body wash while you have a spray tan, I used body wash and my tan stayed on just fine
  • My tan lasted about 5 days before it started to really fade and it doesn't even fade in a splotchy way, it just naturally fades away.
48 hours and 2 showers after I got my spray tan!
Have you ever gotten a spray tan? How do you keep a healthy glow during the winter months without tanning with harmful UV rays? Have a fabulous day!
Yours,
sCe

I got my first spray tan before my trip to LA in February. I loved it! My only tip is that even if it looks TOO dark right after, still don't take a shower for 8 hours, because that's just the bronzer and that will wash off. My sister learned this the hard way.

I'm glad you've stopped using tanning beds! I had an abnormal mole from it, and thank God I found it in time. It's not worth it.

I am so glad you stopped the fake bake in tanning beds. Due to tanning bed use in the past (last time was 7 years ago) I have had 3 skin cancer removals thus far. One n my face and two on my chest. I know have 3 more areas of concern, another being on my face.

I currently am looking for a good spray tan salon. I hate looking pale! Thanks for the recommendations of Sublime and the C&E body scrup/exfoliater. Also thank you for the great tips regarding spray tans.

Great post as always!
