I've been getting an overwhelming amount of requests to share some inexpensive work appropriate outfits for those of you who may work in a more conservative/formal office. So today, I'm highlighting a very affordable wear-to-work option. 

This little black dress comes in well under $100 ($34 off original price) during the Nordstrom Sale. It is offered in several other color-ways/patterns, but I think the best option is sticking with black. The prints make the piece look a little 'cheap' in my opinion (notice on the patterned dresses that the prints don't line up at the seams). 

It's made of polyester, which I usually dislike, but for work purposes, I really think this is a great pick. This is because it can be a workhorse in your wardrobe. It doesn't wrinkle easily and you can machine wash it rather than having to always dry clean it. A quick run through with a steamer will make it look good as new once it comes out of the wash! This would be especially great for someone who travels a lot/gets in and out of cars all day because it doesn't get overly wrinkled!

As for work appropriate, it definitely is just that! It hits right at the knees and as you can see, it's not too form fitting, and the neckline is covered up. I am 5'6" and find this to be 'long'. You could definitely wear tights with this in the winter, too. But my favorite part is that while this is covered up and conservative, it doesn't make you look frumpy. Also, because the dress is more of a swing style, it is VERY comfortable. You could easily spend 10-12 hours in this dress and still be very comfortable. 

In the photos above, I styled the dress from work to play. A quick change of the hair/accessories, and you have a totally different look that could easily be done in 5 minutes before you head out of the office for a dinner/drinks/etc. 

For sizing, it runs true to size. I am wearing a size small. It's pretty loose, so if you are petite, I would suggest sizing down one size. Since this is part of the Nordstrom Sale, this dress will go in and out of stock, so be sure to check back from time to time if you are interested!
