I've shared many times that I am not into resolutions. There once was a time when I made them and really enjoyed making them. And if you do, I say more power to you, and I hope you can stick to your resolutions and exceed your goals!
I'm not out there making 'in and out' lists, no word for the year, no set intentions.
Don't get me wrong, I think having goals, aspirations, hopes, and dreams are all important. But I don't need to reinvent myself because a page in the calendar has been turned. I've adopted the mindset that a goal can be made whenever. I'm constantly and continuously improving myself and readjusting my sails. Of course, calendars dictate some crucial things, such as financials. But stuff like fitness, drinking more water, etcetera? I can start whenever I'd like!
One thing I've started recently is tweaking how I think. It's not a life-changing thing, but it's something I've been saying to myself that pushes me a little more and sets me up for success. It's been helpful enough, so sharing may be valuable to someone!
I think about what would be best for my future self. In a sense, we all think this way automatically when we do things like brushing our teeth. Our future selves will be glad we brush our teeth!
But there are often small tasks I put off for no reason. Sometimes, I'm tired at night, and the dryer has just ended, and I don't immediately fold the clothes. When I want to put something off, I think 'what would future me wish I did in this exact moment'. I immediately pull the clothes out of the dryer, fold them, and put them away.
One frivolous example is that I was going to an afternoon Pilates class on a cold and snowy day. I made my favorite tea and put it in a tumbler. Once I got back in the car after the workout, I was so happy to have the hot tea for the short ride home. It's not a task or chore, but it was a small thing that made my day more enjoyable.
It's simple, and I've noticed it has propelled me to be more proactive with small things in my life. In turn, I feel more accomplished and less stressed when tackling the bigger, more important things.
You can apply it to any facet of your life.
For example, you return home from a trip and unpack your suitcase. You will be glad you got that out of the way so it's not lingering on your floor for a day or two.
If you are trying to curb your spending when shopping online or in a store, think before you check out: will I be glad I bought this in the future? If you are running out of deodorant, 'future you' will be pleased that you have a backup when you run out. But if your goal is to purchase a new car and you have a sweater in your cart when you already have many sweaters, will 'future you' be glad you bought that sweater? Maybe not.
If you are prone to skipping workouts, think about your future self. Tomorrow, will you be glad you skipped that workout today? This one is easy for me. I ALWAYS feel better after I've worked out. I've never once regretted it.
All of it is easier said than done, but reframing it in this context makes decision-making less consuming.
Just a little food for thought!
These photos clearly have nothing to do with today's blog post, but I wanted to share these two outfits I've worn recently that highlight this gorgeous cable sweater vest that the Me+Em brand sent over the holidays! It's my first experience wearing this brand and the pieces are beautifully made! I'm wearing a size small in this sweater vest. I'd say overall, the brand runs true to size but roomy.

I’m loving your looks as much as I am the mantra you’ve adopted. Happy 2025.

Love hearing your thoughts! This is such great wisdom. Along with this, I like to implement the one touch rule. For example, why put my purse down by the door when I can put it in its proper place? Carrying this mantra around with me!
