An Editorial Note

Our New Year's Eve setup! We always stay in and celebrate the first time we met (on NYE)! Can't believe we met 9 years ago! We did a fun surf and turf with crabcakes and ribeye!

My new salt and pepper mills. They are gorgeous!

Happy New Year! I hope you all have a wonderful start to your week and that your new year is off without a hitch! I'll give you a full update on what I've been up to over this 'break' in Thursday's Lately post, but today is sort of a housekeeping-style post I like to do each year!

I’ve been thinking a lot about pace over the last year or two, and, ironically, I've been fed so much 'slow down' content by my social algorithms lately.

Everything online feels fast. Content moves quickly, trends come and go almost overnight, and there’s always pressure to keep up. As I get older and more tenured in this career, I’ve found myself craving the opposite more and more. I want more intentionality and less rushing. Is that even possible in this day and age? I sure hope so!

If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know this blog has followed a Monday-Friday schedule for many years. Consistency has always mattered to me. In fact, I genuinely believe consistency is a massive part of success in any facet- fitness, career, relationships, etc. Showing up regularly is something I’ve taken pride in, and for a long time, that rhythm worked well.

This all started in my freshman year dorm room at JMU. I cannot believe I've been doing this for over 17 years now. How?! Over the years, the work behind the scenes has grown exponentially. Writing the post itself is a fraction of what I do. There’s a lot that is invisible to most: planning, sourcing, linking, formatting, email, social, analytics, and more happening every week. And that's not a complaint; I welcome it all and am endlessly grateful for it.

I don’t want this space to feel rushed. I don’t want to publish something just to check a box. I want the content here to feel thoughtful, and I want to enjoy the process of creating it.

Another part of this, which I don’t talk about all that often, is that this blog is very much a one-woman operation. I’m incredibly grateful for how much my parents and my husband help out, but the writing, planning, and day-to-day work all come back to me. As many content creators do, over the years, I’ve thought about hiring or signing with an agency. Maybe someday I will. But doing this on my own has always been what this was all meant to be. Especially now, when so much content online and on social media feels automated. Staying present here matters to me more than anything!

I know not everyone is interested in 'how the sausage is made'. Still, it feels important to share my thought process because being intentional about what I share matters to me.

Anyway, all that to say, I am making an edit to my posting calendar. I’ll be publishing new blog posts on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (Lately), and Friday (Weekend Wish List), and as always, at 6am ET. Wednesdays without blog content will allot more time for me behind the scenes!

I also realize that some of you likely won’t even notice this change. I know many of you all catch up on posts in one sitting rather than reading them day by day, which is great!

Thank you for being here! I’m so excited to see what this small change makes room for! Tomorrow I'll be sharing the start of my 2025 Favorites list. It was a good year of discovery, so the favorites list is GOOD.
