With Memorial Day weekend coming up, with it comes sales. I asked you all if you are looking for anything in particular, and I was surprised to see so many requests for furniture and specifically bedroom furniture!
I love our bedroom. It might be one of my favorite rooms in our home. That is because it feels the most 'finished.' I always wanted our bedroom to feel light, bright, and serene. I really do feel a sense of calm when I am in that room. Years ago, I stayed at Zero George, a beautiful hotel in Charleston, and loved the vibe of the room I was in. It was mostly light and bright, but it still had some antique brown furniture and touches of blue and white, and that's kind of my inspiration for both this bedroom and our guest bedroom!
Bed
For the bed, I opted to go with a headboard instead of a full bedframe. First and foremost, it is so much easier to move a headboard vs. a bed. It's also easier, quicker, and less costly to re-upholster a headboard.
The 'formula' I used to get a somewhat custom look was to use this bed frame base which allows you to forgo a boxspring entirely. I got the 18" height because I prefer a taller bed. I've been really pleased with this base- it is nice and sturdy! Remember that the standard is 14-15"ish, so it is much easier to find a bed skirt for the standard drop vs. the 18" drop I have. In hindsight, I'd still go with the taller frame, but I would like a bed skirt with a more custom look. Ballard now makes an 18" bedskirt option which must be new because I haven't seen that option before. I just ordered some fabric samples to see if they have a fabric that would coordinate with my headboard/bench!
I got the headboard from Ballard Designs. The quality is exceptional. I love upholstered items from Ballard Designs because you get to pick the fabric and shape of the headboard, so you get a somewhat custom look. They have many other items besides headboards, so you can pick pieces to match. I also got a Bench in the same fabric as the headboard to finish off the bed and tie it together.
Bedding + Linens
I also always like to do white bedding as I think it's an easy canvas to work from with the rest of the room and also really easy to care for. I also love that it reminds me of a hotel. I love the Beach Club line of linens from Serena and Lily, the Boll and Branch Eyelet Line, and The Company Store Legends Percale line for linens. I have duvets and sheets from all three brands. I personally prefer percale- cool and crisp! I have had all of these linens for years now, and all have held up wonderfully.
Accessories
I haven't made many changes to our bedroom at all recently. The newest addition to our bedroom is this beautiful 9x12 Aspen rug but even that update is a year or two old now. It's made of felted wool, and it's so nice and thick and soft underfoot. It feels casual but luxurious at the same time.
I got our Striped Curtains from Ballard Designs. I ordered the headboard, bench, curtains, and mirror all at once because they all worked so well together. The curtains are high quality for the price and I love the simple and serene look they give off. I wanted the headboard and bench to be the focal point of the room so I kept everything else minimal and simple. The full-length wall mirror is no longer available, unfortunately. It was from their Casa Florentina line. The CF line is of exceptional quality for the price.
Future Updates
Our bedroom is mostly finished, but the one thing I want to change and have wanted to change for a while now is the TV area. You can see the photo above. I actually have a different (better) lamp in that space since I took that photo a while ago. The TV in our bedroom is from my apartment and is probably 7ish years old at this point. I'm waiting for it to die so we can replace it with a pretty Frame TV. We love the Frame TVs and have one in our living room. I'll move our living room TV to our bedroom and then get a new one for the living room.
I've also been looking for a new dresser for our bedroom for ages. I got a beautiful high-boy piece of furniture when I first moved in for our upstairs hallway. The woman I got it from (Facebook Marketplace) was moving, and she had this dresser. I either paid a nominal fee, or she just gave it to me. I don't really like the look, and the quality is not up to my usual standards, but I took it because I needed a place for storage in our bedroom ASAP. Well, years later, I still haven't found what I am looking for to replace it. My ideal dresser is this Williams Sonoma dresser, but not only have they since stopped making it, but they never made it in a wood stain that was right for my space- the color was always much too dark. But I love the look so much.
**If you don't see something linked, it is because it's either an antique/consignment find, Homegoods find, or no longer available.
See below for headboards that I love to get a similar look to my bedroom! I cannot vouch for the quality of any of these, but I would highly recommend Ballard Designs pieces based on my experience! Most of these are on sale due to the upcoming holiday weekend!
