The first day of fall is tomorrow, can you believe it?! I feel like it was just new years last week. Time really does fly as you get older! Fall, like for so many others, is my favorite season. Overall, Pittsburgh has been experiencing a warmer than average September, but it looks like we are going to start feeling gorgeous fall weather starting next week. I'm ready to embrace the cooler temps with open arms, that's for sure!
This past weekend, some friends and I got together and cooked breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House at Children's Hospital. I love giving back and being charitable and philanthropic whenever possible, so when I was asked to participate, it was an immediate, yes!
I was somewhat unfamiliar with the Ronald McDonald charity, but it was my friend's charity for her sorority in college, so it was something near and dear to her heart. I'm so glad she shared it with us because it is such an amazing organization.
In Pittsburgh, the house, which looks more like a high-rise apartment building (they have 74 rooms!), is right next door/literally on the Children's Hospital campus. The goal is to provide families who have sick children in the hospital a place to stay for an extended period of time and keep their other worries to a minimum so that they can focus on their child's health. At the house, meals are served daily, there are common rooms/playrooms for children, as well as each family gets their own private bedroom. Amazing, right?
We had so much fun making a group Costo run with our meal plan in hand and buying the supplies for the breakfast. Then, on Saturday morning, we got up bright and early and started to cook in their great kitchen! We ended up making these delicious breakfast casseroles that my friend had made for a brunch earlier this summer. We all loved the casserole so we thought it would surely be a crowd pleaser, and it was! We can't wait to go back and do it again soon.
It was chilly that morning, and we actually got to sit out on their patio while the casseroles baked, so it was nice to be able to enjoy a fall morning with coffee in hand. I was glad to have worn a sweater and jeans! The patio was incredible. It was on the top floor and overlooked all of Bloomfield and then there was a gorgeous view of downtown in the distance. It reminded me how much I love this city.
This post is very fitting today because it is the city of Pittsburgh's Day of Giving, which is put on by The Pittsburgh Foundation. Ronald McDonald House is one of the charities in which you can donate... not to mention a whole host of other worthy charities and organizations. It's definitely worth checking out and donating whatever you are able to!

I love that Pittsburgh hosts a day of giving. My sorority while not nationally connected to Ronald McDonald House Charities would make dinner twice a semester at the house and it was so much fun. Jess at Just Jess
Thank you for sharing your philanthropic experiences! No matter how busy we get, it's always worth making time to make the world a better place.
