Wedding Wednesday: Veil

Today's Wedding Wednesday is a fun one! I have officially found my dress!!! That is all I am going to share until after the wedding. But I am in love with it and cannot wait to wear it. I can't believe I have to wait 8 months to try it on again!

Since I have found my dress, I'm now on the hunt for a veil. Did you wear a veil for your wedding? If so, where did you find it? I am 100% into veils. When I first tried on wedding dresses, I really felt like a 'bride' once a veil was placed on my head.

I figure you are only a bride once, so why not. On top of that, my dress goes very well with a veil as does the gorgeous church and our venue. And finally, Annie Banks Mackenzie (in Father of the Bride) and Kate Middleton wore veils, so that's all the convincing I need.

I fully plan on doing a cathedral length veil. I definitely want that 'drama' because the church has a long aisle and our venue has a lot of drama to it, too, so that type of veil will fit right in!

I'm also very into a blusher (that's the veil that covers your face as you walk down the aisle). I don't see too many brides do this anymore but I LOVE this. It's so traditional and old-school. You can lift the blusher at two points- either the FOB lifts the veil before the bride goes up to the altar with her groom or, the bride wears the blusher until the groom kisses the bride at the end. I'm going to have my dad lift my blusher... I think it would be an annoyance to have the veil over my face for the entirety of the ceremony, ha!

I haven't quite decided how long I plan on wearing my veil. I think that will be a game-time decision. I will wear it at least for the entire ceremony and some photos... I'm thinking maybe I'll keep it on for cocktails, but I have a feeling I'll be over it by then!

Cathedral length veils are so elegant!! We had a shorter, outdoor aisle so I went with a Chapel length veil! And I purchased my dress new so I decided to buy my veil used from a friend. It was in perfect condition and I saved some precious $$$ in the process!

I wore a cathedral length veil with blusher! Honestly, it was my favorite part of my wedding look. I felt so elegant in it! Mine was plain tulle from Twig & Honey. The quality is great, and the draping of the tulle was gorgeous. It was also easy to put on. I literally stuck it into my hair myself in the parking lot when we went to take photos.

I wore the veil for most of our wedding portraits, and I'm so glad I did. We got married on a misty, windy day and the veil looks ethereal in the photos.

This is the one I chose: https://www.twigsandhoney.com/collections/tulle-veils/products/simple-cathedral-length-veil-style-357

I love cathedral veils and am hoping to have one myself in the near future! You are going to be absolutely STUNNING, with whatever option you chose! You are the essence of elegance and class and I am so looking forward to seeing the picture on the blog after the wedding! I LOVE that you're keeping us all in the loop!! Best Wishes!

I wore a veil with a blusher and I loved it! I actually found my veil MAJORLY on sale in the summer before our wedding. There was a downtown sidewalk sale in my city, and my veil, which was previously hundreds of dollars, was reduced to $10. Nothing wrong with it, just clearing inventory and joining in the multi-business sale. I didn't even have my dress yet, but I figured I could pass it on to someone else if it didn't work out.

The third option for the blusher is that the groom lifts it after the FOB has handed the bride off to the groom, before the bride and groom step forward to the priest/sanctuary together. We went with this option. I really wanted my groom to be the hand that lifted my veil, but I didn't want to keep it on for so much of the ceremony.

I must say, I do have a cool picture of my groom lifting the blusher when going in for the "kiss" If you're going to have your dad lift, may be a good idea for a picture for your photographer to take. I regret a bit not getting more pictures with the veil. I am old school too I loved how the blusher looked!

I had my veil attached with Velcro to my head piece, removed veil at reception.
Several of my friends followed my idea as well as my new niece in law!
Made removing the veil and leaving my updo in place!

I had a family cathedral veil that I used for the church ceremony and pictures but changed it out for a shorter (less delicate) veil for the reception. I just felt so much like a bride with it on that I wanted to keep it on without ruining the family veil!!

I just got married in September and wore a veil as well! My advice:

1. Look for custom, you probably are going to want it cut to your height anyways and oftentimes can find them cheaper. My veil, earrings and custom belt were less than one designer veil. My dress was a Jim Hjelm and she matched it perfectly.

2. I wore the veil for pictures, but it definitely was annoying that my groom and MOH kept stepping on the tulle (my dress was tulle as well). Make it clear to them that you need extra space on each side.

3. By the time I got to cocktail hour I was so done with the veil. However, the pictures were gorgeous so I would highly recommend keeping it on for that!

I so agree with the vail helping you finally feel like a bride! I so badly wanted a blusher, however I didn't like how puffy it made the vail when it wasn't over my face, so I ended up going with one without. I also think if you're going to do lots of dancing, which it sounded like from one of your other Wedding Wednesday Posts, that I would take the vail off after pictures or cocktail hour, that way it's not in the way when you're celebrating! Whatever you go with will be right for you!
