Holiday Decor Storage

Holiday Decor Storage

I am definitely one of those people who likes to stay as organized as possible. Everything has a place and is in its place in our house and that is especially so when it comes to holiday decor. Granted, we really don't have a ton of seasonal decor, but it's enough that it all needs to be stowed away in the garage when not in use.

I shared our ornament organizer and a plate organizer on Instagram stories and had a lot of questions and messages asking about storage for this kind of stuff so I thought I would do a post about it!

Our ornament organizer is great because it holds a LOT of ornaments... 112 to be exact! Ours is pretty full already but that's mostly due to plain balls that I plan to use as filler until we collect enough meaningful ornaments to fill our entire tree someday! I specifically liked this one because it has handles and shape. It's so easy to have it sit on the shelf in the garage and just carry it upstairs when we need it. I got mine on Amazon, but it looks to be overpriced there now, so here's the site where I found it with the best price

This is another thing I purchased on Amazon but it seems to be pricier there. So here's the better price. I love wrapping gifts so I have quite a few rolls of wrapping paper. I'm also big on saving and reusing wrapping materials from shipping packages and gifts that I receive from others. I think wrapping can be so wasteful if you toss it out, but there's a ton you can save and reuse! I even save tissue from shopping bags and things like that to reuse. Needless to say, I need a place to store all of that and this helps to keep things orderly!

I wish we had cabinet space for my dishware collecting habit, but we just don't. So, I store our holiday dishes in these great quilted fabric bags. The fabric is slightly padded and there are pieces of fabric to separate each dish. These are SO great for moving, too. I've had mine for a while and (knock on wood) but I've never had a plate break yet! They are also collapsible so when not in use, you can tuck them away without taking up much space at all.

Similar to the dish storage, they make it for stemware, too. We are able to store a lot of glasses in our kitchen cabinets but I do like to have extra sets on hand for larger parties. For example, we had my sister's engagement party last November, so I pulled sets like this out to use as extras to our everyday sets of 12. Glassware, dishes, etc. can break, especially when you are having a party, so it's always good to have some on standby. We also have Spode Christmas glassware that is easily tucked away for the season with these!

There is space under our couch in our basement and we use this under the couch to store random holiday decor. It's actually for under the bed, but if you measure under your couch, you might be able to make these work there, too! You can't really see them under our couch because of how far back we push them, but we chose this kind because we were worried that if you could see them, we didn't want them to just be plastic storage bins!

I store anything in here that I would prefer to be airtight. For example, I store preserved boxwood things in here to keep them dry! These are clear which I love because then I can see exactly what is inside of them.

One tip to stay organized with things out of sight is to take quick iPhone snaps of what you are storing away. You can print those photos out and stick them onto the storage bins to quickly see what is inside and you can store the photos on your computer so you know what you have. For example, if I'm out and I see Spode at Homegoods, I can quickly check my spreadsheet to see how many dinner plates I have. It sounds really involved but it's truly so quick and easy to set something like this up!

You have a spreadsheet for dishes?! Genius! I'm going to have to comb back through your archives, because I remember you did a post on dishes, and I think that's something I'd like to begin collecting. My beau and I LOVE to host, its our love language, so I think having plenty of dishes and place settings would be helpful.
