What I Wore In Newport, Rhode Island

Sweater// Clover Necklace// Mini Monogrammed Tote (free monogramming through 5/11)
Hermes Cashmere Shawl 140 Grand Theatre Noveau (I found mine via Fashionphile)

Last weekend and into last week, we spent time in Newport, Rhode Island. Neither my husband nor I had ever been to Rhode Island, and after visiting, I don't know how it took me this long to visit! Despite the gloomy weather, we had the best time, and it was such a great spot to celebrate my birthday! If you've never been to Newport, add it to your list! I have a travel guide coming soon, but in the meantime, I'm sharing the outfits I wore while on the trip.

I get a good chuckle any time someone asks me for packing tips. I pack in an organized manner, but I do not travel light. I have always wanted to be 'that person' who can just pack a carry-on-sized bag for a long weekend trip, but I have had to accept that I will never be that person. I have so much respect and admiration for all of you light packers! I am high-maintenance to my core. What can I say?!, I like to have an outfit for the hotel breakfast or an early morning coffee run, an outfit for lunch and/or exploring, an outfit for dinner, plus fresh pajamas for each night, and shoes to pair with all of the different outfits!

I wore the outfit above as a travel outfit and then to lunch once we arrived, as our room wasn't ready. The Sweater runs roomy, but I got my true size, small, for a roomy, sweatshirt-like fit. I want to collect so many colors in this gorgeous cashmere sweater. It's so well made, and every single color is perfect! This Mini Monogrammed Tote is the $25 bag of the summer. Simple, classic, timeless, and one of those things you can just toss your stuff in and go.

I look for any excuse to wear this Green Cashmere Wrap. It's my favorite color and unique, too. It was the MVP on this trip as it worked with each of my dinner outfits. This Gold Necklace is really something spectacular. This was sent to me from a new-to-me brand also owned by Juliska. The necklace is more like artwork than jewelry- it's a standout piece! These were my wedding shoes; I absolutely love them because they're gorgeous and incredibly comfortable. However, I would not recommend the satin. You must be careful with them as the satin snags and stains easily. They show wear quickly, even if you only wear them on dry, indoor occasions. It's not just the Manolo brand, but all satin shoes. Sharing this tip, though, because the Manolos are incredibly pricey! I have a velvet pair that holds up so much better, and I have been eyeing the leather heels for years! In hindsight, I definitely would have opted for leather or velvet, but buying wedding shoes is not a time for practicality, ha!

Sweater (use code SUMMERWIND10)// Jeans// Sneakers

This is kind of a boring outfit, but it was the perfect simple ensemble for a travel day. We spent the morning packing up, grabbing a coffee, walking around, popping in and out of some shops, and having lunch before catching our flight. In hindsight, I kind of wish I had worn a cute Varley set because we were delayed by 7 hours. This was still very comfortable, though!

This is one of my favorite pajama sets, which comes in a few colors. There is also a long pants version that I love in the fall and winter. The material is like a stretchy jersey but has a subtle loopy terry inside. The fabric is lightweight but substantial. I wear a size medium. These don't shrink much in the dryer, if at all.

Brown Ballet Flats// Mini Monogrammed Tote (free monogramming through 5/11)

This was an outfit I randomly put together because it rained all day and was very cold! This outfit is made up of all go-to basics that are classic and high quality. Though the strangest thing happened to my Chinos. I washed them in my machine this weekend, and they stained pink. It looked like an errant sock made its way into the load, but it did not. There was nothing pink, red, or strongly colored in the entire load. So I am befuddled as to how it happened. Needless to say, I will order another pair of these because I wear them so often!

I always pack a lounge outfit like this when I travel because it's the type of thing I can just throw on if I need to run to the front desk, grab a coffee, etc. This set is from Varley, and it was a pinch-me moment when the brand reached out last month and asked if they could send me a set from their new arrivals. I LOVE this brand. It's so incredibly comfortable, well-made, and reasonably priced. I think this sage green color is perfect for spring!

This dress is fun and fabulous, and I immediately thought of a bride when I saw the white. It would be so fun for a rehearsal dinner, shower, or after party! Speaking of brides, someone must get this little white dress, too. I am drooling over it. In person, it's more of a creamy linen than a stark, bright white. It comes in a few beautiful colors, but I like the white and plan to take it to Portugal with me! I'm trying to plan ahead with my color palette for packing purposes, and I'm going to go with white as my primary 'color' and build from there, so I don't end up schlepping tons of bags with me. This is splurgey, but this style goes on sale. The black on sale is fabulous and timeless. My earrings are so fun, and I don't wear them enough. I've had them for probably 5 or 6 years. They're Tuckernuck and sadly no longer available.

I love how lightweight this seersucker fabric is. I also have the nightgown, which I love for summer travel, and can be worn as a swimsuit cover-up. These run on the smaller size. I got a size medium, which I usually get in Lake, but I hang them dry. If you want to put them in the dryer, go up two sizes.

Cashmere Wrap// Quilted Jacket (use code SYDNEY20)// Sunglasses
Jeans// Cream Leather Bag (use code FVSYDNEY15)

This was from our one nice weather day, and I took full advantage by shedding my coat. This Cashmere Wrap is the goat of travel. I have collected many colors over the years, but I seem to get the most wear out of this creamy white since it pairs with everything. It's huge, so I love using it as a plane blanket. This cashmere wrap looks nearly identical and is a fraction of the price. I haven't tried it, but I've always been so pleased with anything I ordered from Quince.

I wore this Colorful Silk Shift Dress on my actual birthday for dinner at my favorite restaurant from the trip, the Clarke Cooke House. Last month, Frances Valentine sent me a few of their gorgeous spring pieces, and I knew this would be my go-to dress for the summertime. I LOVE the colors more than any dress I've seen in recent years. It's so vibrant and fun, but the style of the dress is classic and simple. My code for Frances Valentine is FVSYDNEY15 for 15% off. This Gold Cuff Bracelet is an under $50 find and a perfect sleek statement. It looks great worn on its own or stacked with others. I love how shiny it is!
