Rehearsal Dinner Makeup

Rehearsal Dinner Makeup

I thought I would share with you all exactly what I used to do my rehearsal dinner makeup. I did not do my own wedding day makeup so I, unfortunately, don't have the details on that, but I do feel like I did a better-than-usual job on my makeup for our rehearsal, so if you have a special event coming up, this may help! This is a written-heavy post so stick with me if you want the details!

I think my biggest tip when doing your makeup for a special occasion is to just take your time. For me personally, I'm so used to swiping things on quickly in my regular routine, but I notice if I really take my time on each step, I get a much better outcome. I also think if you spend the most time on concealer/foundation, it makes for the best canvas for everything else!

This post is super similar to the makeup routine that I wrote about back in April, but I have a few different products that I used and I'm giving more insight as to how I apply things! But overall, the products below are items I highly recommend. I guess I should also note that I prefer a more natural look when it comes to makeup, I'm definitely of the opinion 'less is more'.

This is such a pretty foundation that provides a good amount of coverage so my skin looks more uniform but it still lets freckles show through. It's buildable so for my rehearsal dinner, I put a little more on than I normally would wear. I use both shades as I saw in a Gucci Westman tutorial she recommended always using two or more foundation colors at once because the skin is not always the same color everywhere so I have now been using both colors. The IV shade is great for me in the summer and mixes well with the II shade which is my perfect match for the winter. Together they are just perfect for me and I would never go back to only using one shade of foundation. I really do think this gives my face a more natural look with a bit more depth to it. I wouldn't call it 'flawless' because this formula allows some natural skin imperfections to show through (but to me, that is positive). It blends so nicely which is one of my favorite things about this foundation! See my full review on Westman Atelier products, here

Becca Undereye Brightener (also here)// applied with fingers
I don't use this every single day, but it's such a good product. I used it for my rehearsal dinner makeup. It's for brightening and neutralizing purple/blue undereye circles. I layer it under the Cle de Peau concealer. It's really easy to apply, you just tap it on and blend with your fingers. It kind of just melts into your skin.  You can read about my holy grail Under Eye products, here

Because this product will no longer be available, (Becca going out of business) I bought backups, but I am also trying to find an alternative to share with you all! I have heard that the Chanel Corrector in Abricot is a pretty comparable product but have yet to try it! But the Becca corrector is still in stock, so snag it while you can!!

If you are not familiar with a 'color corrector' it basically uses the color wheel. If you have purpley/blue dark undereye circles, you want to use an orangey/yellow color over the dark circle to neutralize it. So most under-eye correctors are what they are calling 'apricot'. If you have a zit or redness, you use a green color corrector. Color correcting is fascinating to me and if you want absolutely flawless-looking skin for a special occasion, this plays a huge part in that! I love watching the YouTube videos seeing people literally put red lipstick under their eyes and then use concealer over top and it somehow magically makes their dark circles disappear. I have never been brave enough to try that method, haha!
Cle de Peau Concealer in Beige// applied with fingers
This has been a game-changer for me. I have dark under-eye circles and have tried a ton of different concealers throughout the years. This is the best I have ever tried. Hands down. The hype is real. I know it is very pricey for a concealer but to me, it is worth every cent. It covers my dark circles and blends so nicely. It does not look cakey and does not settle into fine lines. I often just wear this on its own, but it pairs perfectly with the undereye brightener I talked about above. It is long-lasting and just looks so natural and flawless.
I mostly use this setting powder during the summer months when I tend to get a shiny forehead and chin. Since this was a special occasion, I used this setting powder to set my foundation and concealer. This powder is SO fine so you really cannot tell you have applied it. Even though the powder is white, it kind of just melts into my skin and you don't get that really pale undereye with a camera flash that you can get with some other setting powders. If you are doing special occasion makeup, I highly recommend some sort of setting product.

Unfortunately, this is another Becca product and it is no longer available. Such a bummer! I have been trying some new-to-me setting powders and I thought I would share two with you.
First is the Charlotte Tilbury which I kept in my clutch for our rehearsal dinner. It is OK but there is so much hype and I don't get the hype at all. I found it to be cakey. I will say, I think I might have bought a shade too dark. I got the medium and I probably should have gotten the fair. So take that with a grain of salt. I just got the Kosas powder (in the shade breezy) and I love it. It's a solid powder and is super, super fine. It's totally translucent and not cakey at all. Lastly, there has been one that has been recommended to me a ton and that is Fenty's loose powder! I think loose powder is great for getting ready at home but I do prefer a compact that I can carry in my bag if needed- the slimmer the better!
This is product took me a hot minute to fall in love with. At first, I was like eh, this is just OK. But I feel like now that I have practiced with it a ton, it's a 'can't live without' product for me. I only use it at the hollows of my cheeks and then blend upward. I don't really contour my entire face. That's the key- applying it in the right spot and then only blending upward. You need a lot of the product to see color as it's actually not very dark once you blend, but that makes it pretty fool-proof. The formula is pretty matte and the color is cool-toned. It warms up my face in that it gives it some color, but it's not a warm, glowy bronze. I use the product below to get that 'warmth' that I prefer. However, I do think this product really helps to shape my face by accentuating my cheekbones.

This is considered a cream highlighter but I use it as a bronzer in the winter months. It is so creamy, it blends like a dream. In the summertime, I use it more as a highlighter (as it was intended) because I am a bit tanner. For my rehearsal dinner makeup, I applied it on the outer temples of my forehead and on my cheeks right after I used the contour stick. Since the contour stick is more of a flat, matte formula, this has a shimmery quality to it that I find helps to give depth to my complexion. Compared to the contour stick in biscuit, this has shimmer, and the color is a much warmer bronze.  See my full review on Westman Atelier products, here.
I absolutely love this blush and really think this was a huge game-changer in my makeup routine. This is a cream blush and it's very pigmented so you only need to use a tiny bit. For some reason, most powder blushes I have worn in the past wear off on my skin SO quickly. This stays put all day and gives me such a nice flush. The color bichette is incredible, it's warm and has a bit of berry color to it. I gravitate towards 'berry' things as I find that's what typically looks best on my skin tone. See my full review on Westman Atelier products, here.

This is such a good highlighter. Again, another Becca product so order now if you want it. You can find more here... I have heard champagne pop is their most popular color and that is still available. It's very easy to apply and blend and gives such a pretty, subtle glow. It's shimmery but doesn't look sparkly by any means. It just gives my skin a glowy finish. It blends so easily and a little goes a long way! I use this everywhere you are supposed to apply highlighter... I don't typically wear a highlighter daily, but just whenever I want to do something a little 'extra'. I also used this all over my eyelids for a brightened up, glowy look instead of eyeshadow.

I've tried a lot of brow pencils and powders. A makeup artist once told me to use a pencil vs. a powder because it gives a more natural look and I definitely agree with that. Really thin pencils are so easy to use, they are practically foolproof. I have used Anastasia before and lots of other brands from drugstore to luxury and this is one thing I am truly not convinced spending more or less money makes any difference. I have never tried a bad brow pencil. This is just currently what I am using now, but I will continue to try different brands until I find one that 'blows me away'. Up next I think I'm going to try Kosas since it's a new-to-me brand I have been loving!
Something quick and easy to swipe on and hold my brows in place. It's clear! Works like a charm and is inexpensive. I rarely use eyebrow gel day-to-day and I'm not sure why. It takes 2 seconds to apply so I am going to start to try and remember to apply more often!

I almost never wear eyeshadow and yet I do have quite a few nice eyeshadow palettes. I only keep this one in my makeup bag, though. I really like the colors and they last for a very long time. A little goes a long way. I used the bottom right color to give myself 'eyeliner'. A makeup artist told me to use a powder to do eyeliner as it looks more natural and less harsh than a pencil or marker/liquid. So this is what I always do and I really like the outcome! The brush is the key, here. It gives me control and it's easy to get right up against my lash line so it almost looks like my lash line is darker and more defined and not like I actually have any eyeliner on!
I have eyelash extensions so I only used mascara on my bottom lashes. I love this mascara. It's long-lasting and a nice dark black color. It doesn't clump. Regardless if I have extensions on my top lashes or not, I prefer a travel-sized mascara when I apply mascara to my bottom lashes. I feel like I have more control and precision with the shorter-length wand.
This is the best lipstick I have EVER used. I could sing its praises from the rooftops, it's so good. First, the color is just perfect on my skin. The formula and color remind me a bit of my beloved Bobbi Brown Crushed Lipstick in Babe but I find this shade to be a bit more flattering on me. The Kosas leans a little pinker than the Bobbi Brown babe does. The formula is similar to Bobbi Brown crushed in that it lasts pretty long, but it's more hydrating than BB crushed. This lipstick is for sure a 10/10. There is a 'mini' size you can get that's perfect for a tiny clutch. I got the mini tube and actually, my wedding dress had pockets so I was able to keep the mini size in my pocket all night for touch-ups. It was perfect!

This is basically makeup for your body. This product works so well. It's pretty pigmented so I cut it with some lotion because I didn't want my legs to look overly airbrushed, I was using it to give me some color. I didn't spray tan for my wedding and I don't use self-tanner so this was the perfect product for a one-time application. It washes right off in the shower and doesn't transfer onto anything while it's on your body. It's really easy to apply and blend, literally just like you are putting lotion on your body. It's not streaky or anything like that. I just used my hands to apply (although, it says to use a mitt) and then washed my hands right afterward. I am, admittedly, high maintenance in a lot of ways, but this product feels *very* high maintenance for me so I'll likely only use it on special occasions.
