That’s why transitional dressing can feel challenging. My solution? Leaning on simple, polished basics that work no matter what the day brings. A crisp white button-down paired with classic denim is always a go-to. It feels put-together without being fussy and is the perfect answer to those “I have nothing to wear” moments. Timeless and versatile, it’s a foundation you can build upon endlessly.
This particular white button-down is very affordable, well-made, and made from Oxford cloth, which is my preferred fabric for button-downs. I also love that you can monogram the shirt! I am wearing a size small.
If you are unfamiliar with shirting fabrics, cotton poplin is a more common fabric for white button-downs, but both poplin and Oxford are classic shirting fabrics. While they are both made from cotton, they differ in texture and feel. Poplin is tightly woven with a fine, smooth finish that gives it a crisp, polished look, making it perfect for dressier outfits or when you want a shirt that feels lightweight and refined. Oxford, on the other hand, is woven with a slightly heavier basketweave that gives it more texture and durability. It feels more casual and relaxed, making it great for everyday wear. Both are timeless, but poplin leans sleek and tailored, while Oxford has an easygoing, lived-in appeal.
I do wear lighter wash jeans, but there is something so polished about a darker wash. For shoes, the world is your oyster. Switch the flats for chic boots, sneakers, or heels. That's what I particularly love about these Jeans, the cut works with any shoe! I also love that they are very stretchy for all-day comfort. Adding a pretty belt and neutral flats are easy additions to elevate the look.
As the temperatures dip, it’s easy to have this as your base, and then you can layer on a cardigan, blazer, or coat. These wardrobe staples carry you seamlessly through September’s unpredictable weather and beyond. Sometimes, simple, well-chosen pieces are often the most stylish.
