Personal Style

Flats (use code SARAHFLINT-SYDNEY50 for $50 off)

Have you all seen the various memes floating around social media where Gen Z has proclaimed that side parts and skinny jeans are 'out'? In fact, it means you are old if you are still rocking either!! Over the past few months, as the meme has popped up, I have received several messages inquiring about my thoughts on this *very* important subject (ha). Should we all stop wearing skinny jeans and start parting our hair down the middle?!

And it got me thinking...

Fashion is ever-evolving and trends come and go. We all know that. The older I get, the more I'm able to see these trends pop up and fade, pop up and fade. It's all cyclical. I've tried lots of trends over the years and looking back at some of those photos, I definitely cringe! But that's all part of creating your own style: learning your own personal preferences, learning from whatever you dub a 'mistake', fine-tuning, and creating a style that is unique to you and your tastes.

I can tell you there have been SO many times in my life that I have worn an outfit that really is just not me. In those instances, I can look back on photos and remember not feeling totally comfortable in that outfit. On the other side of the spectrum, how amazing of a feeling is it when you put on an outfit and you feel incredible like it was all made for you?!

I personally think what's most important when you get dressed each day is that you feel good about what you are wearing. What's really cool about fashion is that even my own sister and I have very different tastes and style. If you gave us the same dress, we would likely style it very differently!

If you feel wonderful in sweats, awesome. If you want to wear a ballgown to walk your dog, perfect. If you want to cut all of your hair off, just do it! If you never wear makeup again, cool! What is important is that you feel yourself.

I have decor taste that is not popular. But at the end of the day, it's my home, and it has to feel like it. I have always dressed more 'maturely' than my actual age. At the end of the day, it's me walking around in those outfits and I have to feel like me.

So my point is really something that transcends fashion- do it for yourself! Dress for yourself. Do the things that fulfill you and make you happy. There will always be someone that will deem your skinny jeans as 'old' but if you love them, then I hope you continue to fill your closet with them!

As for me, I fully plan to continue wearing skinny jeans and rocking my side part!

I couldn’t agree with you more. People will always make comments about things I wear that it’s so me and I think that’s a great compliment. I don’t wear what I wear because it’s trendy but because I like it. I love following your content because it’s unique and have similar taste so this sentiment is great to hear!
