For months, I've been coming to this post and adding to it as I thought of things. I think it's finally to the point where there are enuogh gems to be worthy of a blog post! This is my life hack guide of things I would recommend to you. They are small things that I do that make my my life easer and better.
These photos above have nothing to do with the post- just sharing some recent outfits/finds!
- Before heading out on a trip, fill up a grocery cart order and schedule it for delivery or pickup the evening you return or the next morning. You’ll remember what you’re out of more easily while you’re still at home, and you'll be less tempted to grab unhealthy options once you’re back. Even if you prefer shopping in person, jot down your list before you leave as it’s one less thing to worry about when you return.
- Keep multiple sets of towels and bed linens on hand so you always have a fresh set ready to go. No one has time to wait around for the dryer.
- We set a nightly Alexa reminder to feed Henry (our pup if you are new!) at the same time each evening. It’s a simple trick that helps us stay consistent, and dogs thrive on routines.
- Wash your clothes inside out. It helps preserve fabric quality and keeps everything looking newer, longer.
- I keep my travel toiletry bag fully stocked and ready at all times. I also have a cabinet drawer for extra travel-size items. Most are freebies from gift-with-purchase promos or spontaneous Target finds like mini toothpaste. The same goes for my makeup: what I use daily stays in my makeup bag, and extras live in a drawer, so I can just grab and go.
- Curl your lashes at the beginning of your makeup routine, then apply lash primer immediately after. By the time you’re ready for mascara, the primer will have dried completely (it should turn clear), and you’ll get better results.
- Always think about “future you.” For example, future you will be so glad you folded the clean sheets fresh out of the dryer rather than letting them sit in a wrinkled pile for days.
- Apply skincare at least 30 minutes before bed so it has plenty of time to soak in and doesn't rub off on the sheets.
- At the start of each new year, I go through my calendar and write down birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates. I also tuck birthday cards into the appropriate months so they’re ready to go when the time comes.
- I keep my Hydroflask filled and in the fridge at all times. That way, if I’m ever rushing out the door, I can just grab it without resorting to a plastic water bottle from the basement fridge.
- The AirTag-in-your-luggage hack is absolutely worth it. I find it even calms my nerves about losing a bag.
- Use a coffee filter to remove smudges from your phone and computer screens. You can even use it to clean your windows. It really works!
- Dip freshly cut hydrangea stems in alum to keep them fresher for longer. You can find this in the spice aisle at the grocery store.
- Keep a donation bin or garbage bag in your closet. Toss items in as you come across them, and over time, you'll naturally build up a collection to donate or sell. This is a MUST for me or else I'd be swimming in things.
- I always keep my eye and face masks in the fridge for added cooling/depuffing.
- Just five minutes of stretching before bed makes a world of difference. I’ve built it into my nightly routine, so I never forget to do it.
- If you freeze bread, lightly spritz a slice with water and warm it in the oven. It helps restore a soft, fresh-baked texture and fresher flavor. Just a light amount of water, though, don't get it sopping wet!
- When someone close to you mentions something they love, jot it down in your phone. You’ll thank yourself later when it comes time to buy a thoughtful birthday or holiday gift.
- If you're a dark roast coffee lover like me and find yourself somewhere with only light or medium roasts, ask for a shot of espresso added to your coffee. It deepens the flavor and makes it taste more like a bold, dark roast. The sweetest barista at Nemacolin taught me this and I've been doing this ever since.
- Dawn dish soap will get out stains from greasy things like salad dressing or mayonnaise.
- When prepping for a longer trip, plan all your outfits ahead of time and snap photos of each one. I'm talking shoes, accessories, the whole look. It’ll help you remember what you packed. I'd also like to say it prevents overpacking, but I haven't found that to be true for myself, ha!
- Keep a running list of things you want, and revisit it every few weeks. You’ll be surprised how many items you end up removing after some time passes. It’s a great way to curb impulse purchases.
- Getting enough sleep and practicing gratitude are two easy habits that will change your life.
I'm curious, what would you add to this list?
