How to Style a Slip Skirt

Lace Cami// Leopard Slip Skirt

Happy Friday! I hope you all have some fun things planned for this weekend. Tonight we are headed out to dinner and a fun concert downtown. We have been having such great weather lately so I fully plan on soaking up the last bit of summer sun as it is the last weekend the pool is open!

Now onto today's post... let's chat slip skirts. I had been seeing slip skirts and dresses around for a while now and I had convinced myself that they were not for me. But, when I saw this leopard slip skirt, I couldn't resist and my curiosity got the best of me!

Well, I am so glad I tried it out because I love love love this slip skirt! It's the perfect thing to throw on and feel fancy without actually looking overdressed. It totally makes the perfect date night outfit. It's a bit youthful and trendy if you pair it with a lace cami like I did but also looks great and more modest with a drapey cashmere cardigan.

While I'm not much of a trend follower, I definitely think that the way I styled this slip skirt skews more classic than trendy! You'll be seeing me rocking this all fall season!

Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Lately

This has been such a smooth week! Knock on wood, but things just went so swimmingly and I got so much done. I'm so excited about fall because there is so much going on! This is the last weekend that our country club pool is open, so I know we will be soaking up the weather and last bits of summer!

Not only did I tackle a ton of to-do items, but I also tackled some house things as well as wedding things. It has me feeling so good heading into the weekend. I have been indecisive when it comes to house things and I have finally made a few decisions. I've also been procrastinating some of the menial wedding tasks and finally decided to tackle them.

This week I also received so many amazing fall pieces and this cool weather we have been having (which is amazing!) allowed me to wear some of them! I'll definitely be sharing them with you in the weeks to come!

Wearing: The outfit you see above is such a simple look and easy for early fall when it is still really warm out! The white peplum top is lightweight cotton so it is basically a 'fancier' version of a long sleeve tee!

Eating: I just got a wedge of Port Salut cheese for the first time and you guys...this might be my most favorite cheese ever! It's super creamy like a really good brie, but the flavor is much milder. It's just really easy to eat and spread and it pairs so well with anything on a charcuterie board! I think it would be fabulous with an olive tapenade, or prosciutto and melon or peach, and it's so great paired with the Trader Joe's fig and olive crisps and bubbly. If you can find a wedge of this, snag it because it is my newest favorite.

Drinking: Love this article from Town and Country where they share tasty apple cider cocktail recipes. Count me in!!

Reading: I have a question for all of you! Do you have any book recommendations that are similar to The Nightingale?  I loved it SO much and would love to read more similar books! I have already read All The Light We Cannot See and Once We Were Brothers- both are similar and I would highly recommend both but if you can think of any others, let me know!

Sale-ing: There are so many good sales happening since this is a holiday weekend so I am going to create an entire blog post and post it on Saturday so you can see all of the sales, discount codes needed, and my favorite picks from different retailers!

Watching:
AMAZED at this cute little 4-year-old cheerleader. I was a cheerleader in middle/high school and I'm still into watching cheerleading videos to this day. This little girl is amazing and not only are her moves great but the fact that she nails the choreography is amazing for how young she is!

Listening: I just started my fall playlist if you want to follow along as I add to it!

Loving: OMG. This Hudson Bay doggy coat is the CUTEST THING EVER. Henry has a raincoat and a Barbour-style coat, but I might just have to get him this.

Wanting: This coat
is truly everything. Timeless, preppy, sophisticated, and functional. What more could you ask for in a coat?!

Pittsburgh-ing: I hate to be the bearer of bad news if you haven't heard this already, but the Farmer's Almanac is apparently predicting a 'Polar Coaster' in Pittsburgh. Which sounds awful. Lots of snow and colder than normal temperatures. I am not here for this AT ALL. Hopefully, the prediction is wrong!!

Traveling: Next up, I'm headed to Nashville for one of my sorority sister's weddings! I cannot wait!!!

Leopard Coats for Fall

As weird as this sounds, this leopard coat has a special place in my heart and I'll likely keep it forever. I bought it the morning I got engaged and ended up wearing it that night when we got engaged! The coat is from last winter (Ann Taylor) so it is no longer available but it was one of my most worn pieces.

I'm so excited to be able to pull it out as the temps start to dip. The print is loud and it makes an otherwise simple outfit a lot more fun! I feel fabulous when I wear this coat!

I thought it would be fun to share some leopard coats that are out this year. They are all different lengths and weights and cuts, but there is something for everyone!

I don't know about you, but since I live in Pittsburgh, coats are not only a necessity but it's sometimes all anyone sees of an outfit so I love to buy coats. I have so many and I love having all of the choices each day. It makes the chilly weather a little better!

I can't wait to wear my leopard coat during the holiday season. I think leopard looks so great with bright red and I also can't wait to pair it with a LBD!

Saturday Shopping

Happy weekend, everyone! Hope you are all enjoying and relaxing! I'm happy to report that we have no set-in-stone plans for the weekend but my bff is in town so I'm sure I'll see her for a bit and hoping to take advantage of the most beautiful weather ever! It's in the low-mid 70's and mornings have been chilly. Pure bliss if you ask me! Hot morning coffee tastes a lot better in that kind of weather!

Check out some of the great fall pieces I have stumbled upon from this week like this coat. Dream. Coat.

My Home Office

 My Home Office

Today I'm sharing my home office with all of you! I've been living here for about 3.5 months and I feel as though a lot has been accomplished. It still has a long way to go, but it's working out nicely for now! Most of the items in not only my office but the entire house are antiques, but I will try and find likes to similar items as best I can! This room is the smallest in the house so it is perfect for an office and honestly even bigger than what I need it for!

Plans for this wall: I hope to do a 'statement' wall of either grasscloth or wallpaper to add some texture and interest! This will likely get done the same time the powder bath is wallpapered- still haven't picked a wallpaper, ugh!!! The door to the right goes into the Jack and Jill bathroom.

These photos and frames used to hang above my bed in my apartment

You can see in the bathroom... it's a full bath but everything else ( like shower, sink, etc.) is off to the left of this photo! This bathroom is actually quite spacious and I love the way it is laid out. We need a really large mirror for this space and I haven't been able to find one I love yet. So this guest bathroom literally gets no use, ha! But, I do plan on utilizing this bathroom as 'my' getting ready bathroom once we do find a nice mirror. It gets flooded with the best natural light and the counter space and storage space is abundant! The bathroom is predominantly white with touches of pale gray and blush pink.

I love my desk so much. The only downside is that there is virtually no storage space. There is just one slim drawer. I didn't want this office to look like an 'office' at all. I really wanted it to look homey and comfortable and wanted whatever pieces I chose for in here to be repurposed in a future home.

So for storage, I opted for a dresser. It stores office supplies, camera equipment, files, etc. It looks beautiful and you'd never realize just how much stuff is inside of the drawers.

It was hard to capture this image because this room has the best light in the house. I mean really the entire house is flooded with natural light, which is a huge reason I bought it. However, this light is by far the best! It was so bright and cheery in the room, it was hard to capture this space because there are two big windows flanking this chest of drawers!

The Drawbertson piece is one of my very favorite things I own but doesn't go with my rather traditional decor. However, I think it's a nice juxtaposition of old and new and I love looking at it! I also like the pop of pink it adds to a rather neutral space.

Just some knickknacks on my desk. I really prefer a clean desk with few distractions. I will let it get messy but it's always clean by nighttime when I finish up. Ps. my passport is usually locked away, but I had it out for something the day I was shooting these!

This is sweet Henry's little corner. I bought him a beautiful custom bed for this corner and he NEVER laid on it. He only wants this red bed, which is the first bed he ever had when I brought him home. Oh well! This is my huge mirror that I purchased from Kirkland's many years ago. It's seriously the biggest mirror I have ever seen and takes up the entire wall.

There is an 8' wide wall to the left of my desk (which is not pictured) and right now it's completely bare. I definitely want to do something on that wall but I'm not exactly sure what to do! I don't want to add any more furniture to the room. Right now, I like that this space feels very spacious and open so I don't want to crowd it with furniture but am not sure if I should add more frames or shelves or what to that wall! I also want to do something to add more color- I think the wallpaper/ grasscloth might achieve that, but we'll see! This is meant to be a bedroom, so I don't want to do anything too drastic to turn it into an office so it will sell well or rent out nicely!
